Audi verwelkomt Seidl’s transfer naar Sauber

In 2022 vond het “silly season” fenomeen plaats gedurende de winterstop. Ditmaal was het de beurt aan de teambazen van de Formule 1 om verrassende moves te maken en het publiek te verbazen. Ook Andreas Seidl maakte deel uit van de transfergekte tussen teamleiders. Seidl was voorheen teambaas van McLaren en is nu inmiddels CEO van de overkoepelende organisatie van het F1-team van Alfa Romeo Racing, namelijk de Sauber Group. Audi, toekomstig F1-partner van Sauber, zegt in een statement de verhuizing van Seidl te verwelkomen.

Het balletje begon te rollen met de aankondiging van Mattia Binotto. De ingenieur van oorsprong leidde het Formule 1-team van Ferrari tussen 2019 en 2022, maar maakte eerder deze maand bekend per einde van het 2022-seizoen van de Formule 1 zijn taken bij zich neer te leggen. Het opende hierdoor de ruimte voor Frederic Vasseur, tot voorheen nog Sauber CEO en Alfa Romeo-teambaas, om de doorstap te maken naar Ferrari.

Op zijn beurt kon Andreas Seidl volgen door de transfer te maken van McLaren naar Sauber. Het betekent een uitgelezen kans voor Seidl om zijn nieuwe werkgever voor te bereiden op de komst van autofabrikant Audi. Vanaf 2026 zal het F1-team van Sauber, dat momenteel vanwege een samenwerking de naam Alfa Romeo draagt, namelijk Audi krachtbronnen in haar auto’s hebben. Naar alle waarschijnlijkheid zal het F1-team de naam van Audi gaan gebruiken. Met Duitser Seidl aan de leiding van de overkoepelende organisatie, lijkt het team een grote factor te kunnen gaan worden in de Formule 1-wereld.

In een officiële statement van Audi verwelkomt CTO Oliver Hoffmann de komst van Seidl bij Sauber. "We verwelkomen de keuze van onze toekomstige partner. Andreas Seidl heeft grootschalige ervaringen met leiderschapsposities in de motorsport aan zowel de kant van de fabrikant als de Formule 1. Zijn behaalde resultaten zijn indrukwekkend."

  Waarom niet? Formeel zitten ze nog niet vast aan elkaar en zijn ze vooral een Ferrari-partner.

Worden nog rare jaren bij Sauber. Hoeveel procent van de aandelen heeft Audi nu? En tot wanneer hebben ze een contract met Ferrari? En met Alfa? Dat laatste loopt volgend jaar af dacht ik.
