Red Bull testte nieuwe achtervleugel in Sakhir

Red Bull Racing profiteerde van het snelle circuit tijdens het GP-weekend van Sakhir om een nieuwigheid op de achtervleugel te testen. Door de afwijkende lay-out van het Bahrein International Circuit die afgelopen F1-weekend werd toegepast, werd het circuit in Bahrein een zeer snelle baan met tijden onder een minuut. Red Bull Racing bekeek de opties op de baan waar weinig downforce nodig was, aangezien het bijna op een oval reed.

Vrijdag tijdens de vrije trainingen reed Max Verstappen met een achtervleugel op zijn RB16 met slechts één bevestigingspunt in het midden van de vleugel. Normaal gesproken rijdt de RB16 op die plek met twee bevestigingspunten. Zelfs op het circuit met lage downforce van Monza is dit niet geprobeerd. Het is niet duidelijk of het voordeel er was. Verstappen reed tijdens de kwalificatie en de race weer met de normale vleugel.

Mogelijk dat deze vleugel is getest met het oog op 2021, aangezien het kampioenschap is beslist en er dit jaar nog allerlei wijzigingen gedaan mogen worden, volgend jaar zijn de meeste aanpassingen zeer beperkt die tijdens het seizoen plaats mogen vinden.
