Max Verstappen blij: "Goed om op deze manier de winter in te gaan"

Red Bull Racing heeft het seizoen 2020 enigszins goed afgesloten. Vooraf was de hoop dat dit jaar echt gestreden kon worden om de titel maar niets bleek minder waar. Door de filosofie van het Oostenrijkse team liep het te ver achterop Mercedes. Red Bull begint het seizoen vaak met een achterstand waarna het tijdens het seizoen een inhaalslag maakt en in rap tempo de wagen ontwikkelt.

Door het coronavirus en de races die elkaar snel opvolgden lukte het team niet om de auto snel door te ontwikkelen. Ondanks dat kwam tegen het einde van het seizoen toch de waarde van de RB16 naar boven en wist het team rondom Adrian Newey de problemen van de wagen te tackelen.

Dat resulteerde in goede resultaten en afgelopen weekend in een pole position en daarna de overwinning in Abu Dhabi. Max Verstappen gaat met een goed gevoel de winter in, maar weet ook dat zijn overwinning niks zegt over volgend jaar.

Tegenover de aanwezige pers zei de Red Bull-coureur: "Het is altijd goed om zo de winter in te gaan. Lewis reed hier vorig jaar behoorlijk ver voor me uit en dan weet je natuurlijk dat het een jaar later best een moeilijk verhaal gaat worden."

Verstappen wil na dit weekend echter niet te snel juichen. "Je moet het altijd in de context van het seizoen plaatsen. Mercedes was erg dominant. Voor het hele team is het een opsteker en motivatie om zo de winter in te gaan."

Ik heb dit weekend weer een beetje vertrouwen getankt. Max was zo onwijs relaxed aan het cruisen Zondag, dat zijn banden bijna te koud werden om nog fatsoenlijk door te kunnen schaatsen. De auto lastig te handelen RB16 was eindelijk eens perfect afgesteld, volle gas naar 2021 met die bull.

  Ik hoop dat men niet te veel basisdingen aan de auto aanpast en zo vanalles overhoop haalt en weer helemaal het wiel moet uitvinden en een heel seizoen bezig is om de snelheid van de Mercedessen te matchen .
  
  Wat me ook opviel is dat de vele wissels de afgelopen jaren bij Honda eindelijk zijn vruchten heeft afgeworpen , en dat men tot de seizoensfinale tot 100% de motor kon gebruiken , als men de oplaadsystemen en accu's kan verbeteren zou dat goed nieuws zijn , want Mercedes won op sommige circuits tot wel 3 kwart van een seconde op de rechte stukken .

En dan ook nog eens met de vraag wat Mercedes ongetwijfeld nog op de plank heeft liggen en wat er nog eens bij komt komende winter, zal menigeen het gevoel geven dat Red Bull nog flinke stappen zal moeten maken.

  Klopt Mercedes begon vorige week al rustig te rijden, vandaar ze 7 -8 werden, en gaven een show weg, hoeveel banden kunnen we wisselen in 10 min , deze week 2 -3 dit was echt het beste voor de Motor. Al was Mercedes uitgevallen, of alles gewonnen dat maakt niets uit voor Red Bull in 2021, alleen voor jouw waarschijnlijk.
