Alonso: "Steeds moeilijker om talent van jonge coureurs te beoordelen"

Volgens tweevoudig wereldkampioen Fernando Alonso wordt het steeds moeilijker om het talent van jonge coureurs in de Formule 1 te beoordelen. Na twee jaar uit de F1 te zijn zegt de Spanjaard dat hij op 39-jarige leeftijd nog steeds in topconditie verkeert.

"Psychofysische tests tonen aan dat ik net zo fit ben als in 2010", vertelde hij de Italiaanse krant Corriere della Sera. "Ik denk ook dat ik volwassener ben dan ooit. Ik heb mijn rijstijl geanalyseerd om eventuele oneffenheden te corrigeren en mijn snelheid blijft intact. Mijn ervaringen op Le Mans en Indy hebben me veel nuttige gegevens opgeleverd."

"Waar ben ik bang voor?" Vroeg Alonso retorisch. "Een kalender van 23 races. Dat betekent dat je het hele jaar ongeveer 20 vrije dagen hebt."

Russell maakt indruk

Het is op dat vlak dat de jongere coureurs het misschien beter aankunnen, maar Alonso zei dat de moderne Formule 1 het moeilijk maakt om erachter te komen welke van hen de beste is. "Dat is moeilijk te beantwoorden maar George Russell is het meest interessant. In vijf dagen - niet 100 - ging hij van de laatste naar de eerste plaats. Allemaal zonder een goddelijke aanraking of meditatie in Tibet of iets dergelijks", hij lachte.

"Het was genoeg om in de Mercedes te stappen. Maar als we het hebben over wie Hamilton en Bottas het meest in hun spiegels zien, dan is het Verstappen. Leclerc is een uitzonderlijk talent, maar het zal een paar jaar duren om hem echt te beoordelen."

Volgens mij is het alleen moeilijk om jong talent echt goed te beoordelen zodra ze in de Mercedes stappen. Eigenlijk zou er nog een jong talent in die auto moeten rijden om een referentie te kunnen hebben.

  Ik kan het niet anders dan met je eens zijn @bschuit.
  Hoe goed zijn Russel, Norris, en Leclerc? Alle drie zijn zij absoluut de toekomst van de F1, last daar geen misverstand over bestaan. De toekomst zal uitwijzen of het absolute toppers zijn, of gewoon goede coureurs.
  Russel wordt nu gehypet na 1 race in de beste auto van het veld, maar ik beoordeel toch liever over meerdere races.
  Bij Williams is het lastig oordelen, hij laat op zaterdag zien dat hij snel is, maar in de race zie ik nog niet dat exceptionele wat hem een absolute topper maakt.
  Er zijn genoeg coureurs in de F1 gekomen die veelbelovend waren, maar uiteindelijk toch niet dat bijzondere talent waren dat ze vooraf werd toebedeeld.
  Blijft lastig oordelen door de soms enorme verschillen in de auto’s.

Wil hij ons nu laten geloven dat hij maar 20 vrije dagen per jaar heeft??!!
Hoop toch niet dat iemand hier in zal trappen!!
Snelle rekensom;
23 x 4 dagen in de F1 weekende = 92
365 - 92 = 273
273 - 20 ('de enige vrije dagen') = 253
Dit zou betekenen dat hij dus 253 dagen per jaar in de simulator zit en promotionele dagen heeft........geloofd toch niemand!!!??
En wanneer het zou kloppen heeft hij wel heel slecht onderhandeld!

Ik zou nog bijna medelijden met de coureurs krijgen 😩
