Ferrari ziet 2021 als overgangsjaar maar wil vechten voor derde plaats in kampioenschap

Het lijkt misschien een bescheiden ambitie, maar teambaas Mattia Binotto zegt dat de zesde plaats dit jaar het slechtste resultaat in 40 jaar van het Italiaanse team was. Ferrari kende een rampseizoen doordat de motor aangepast moest worden na een geheime afspraak met de FIA en kwam er daardoor totaal niet aan te pas. Met moeite kwam het enkele keren op het podium.

Ferrari's teambaas Binotto heeft de doelstelling voor 2021 in zicht: "Het minimumdoel is de derde plaats. Dat zou niet onmogelijk moeten zijn. Een team dat vier keer tweede en één keer derde werd in het hybride tijdperk en Mercedes twee jaar lang uitdaagde, zou dat moeten kunnen bereiken."

Aston Martin, AlphaTauri en McLaren

Binotto gaf echter toe dat met de beperkte regelgeving voorafgaand aan het nieuwe tijdperk in 2022, de teams die goed waren in 2020 ook goed zullen zijn in 2021. "Racing Point en AlphaTauri hebben een aantal gratis tokens vanwege hun partnerschap met respectievelijk Mercedes en Red Bull, en McLaren schakelt over op een Mercedes-motor. Ik verwacht nog meer van hen", zo stelt de Italiaan.

Binotto zei dat 2021 een overgangsseizoen is voor Ferrari, maar hij staat er in ieder geval op dat het team uit Maranello niet langer de zwakste motor zal hebben. "We kunnen niet zomaar een seizoen afschrijven, maar hoeveel tijd we in de auto stoppen voor 2021 en die voor 2022, zal pas worden beslist als we bij de testsessie in Barcelona komen", onthulde hij.

  Leclerc en Max in één team gaat niet werken. Mocht RBR stoppen dan kan hij misschien bij McLaren terecht.

  Ik denk eerder Mercedes. Als Hammertime besluit om een eenjarig contract te tekenen, zijn achtste titel binnen te slepen en besluit te stoppen dan zou Max best in die auto kunnen stappen met Russel.
  
  Al komt daar veelvoudig het woordje ALS bij natuurlijk.

  Binotto is geen man van de rookgordijnen en luchtkastelen en is tot dusver telkens zeer realistisch gebleven in zijn uitspraken - dat waardeer ik dan ook heel erg in hem.
  
  Daarom heb ik er op basis van deze uitspraak vertrouwen in dat de weg opwaarts is ingezet!

Gewoon goede en realistische uitspraken van Binotto, dat mag ik wel. In ieder geval een stuk beter dan die onrealistische uitspraken van Helmut aan het begin van ieder seizoen....
