FIA-president Jean Todt: "Volgend jaar zal niet alles weer normaal zijn"

Jean Todt heeft de verwachtingen gebagatelliseerd dat de Formule 1 in 2021 weer 'normaal' kan worden. Nu de corona-pandemie nog steeds woedt in de dagen voor Kerstmis, twijfelt de FIA-president of de kalender van 23 races zal verlopen zoals gepland.

"Het F1-seizoen 2020 was een geweldig jaar waarin we veel creativiteit hebben ervaren. Wie had een jaar geleden kunnen geloven dat we drie races in Italië zouden hebben en verschillende andere op hetzelfde circuit? We hebben geprobeerd het aantal coronabesmettingen in de autosportwereld laag te houden. Maar helaas is het nog niet voorbij", waarschuwde de 74-jarige.

"Dit seizoen loopt ten einde, maar we beginnen niet opnieuw op een blanco pagina omdat het virus en de beperkingen er nog steeds zijn. Het vaccin zal goed zijn voor iedereen die op aarde leeft, maar er zullen mogelijke veranderingen zijn in de verschillende kalenders, niet alleen in de F1. Naar mijn mening zal de helft van het jaar niet zijn zoals we zouden verwachten in een normaal seizoen", voegde Todt eraan toe.

0,1% besmet in F1

De aankomende F1-CEO Stefano Domenicali bevestigde dat zijn organisatie zal proberen de situatie te beheersen, wat er ook gebeurt in 2021.

"Wat ik moet benadrukken, is dat in maart niemand dacht dat het mogelijk zou zijn om te racen", citeert hij het Italiaanse Autosprint. "Sindsdien hebben we meer dan 80.000 tests gedaan en slechts 79 mensen bleken positief te zijn. Het is 0,1 procent, dat is echt niets. Dus terwijl we het hebben over een systeem dat moet worden verbeterd, hebben we het ook over een systeem dat bleek ons te laten racen."

maar toch, met 17 grands prix hebben ze er tegen alle verwachtingen in nog best een aardig seizoen van gemaakt! Tevens een goed systeem ontwikkeld (waar ze nu meer ervaring mee hebben en kunnen verbeteren) dus ik verwacht toch weer een 'redelijk volwaardig' seizoen

Hij kan er wel het gehele jaar 2021 van maken , wordt gewoon een zelfde jaar als 2020, en daarna maar hopen dat alles weer eens normaal zal zijn.

  Zeker weten, ze hebben dat toch eigenlijk in korte tijd heel goed opgezet, want het werkte perfect. Dus ze weten hoe ze het moeten gaan doen in 2021, waarschijnlijk zal het alleen maar makkelijker gaan in 2021 verwacht ik., alleen toeschouwers erbij dat zal nog steeds een probleem zijn in 2021 neem ik aan.

  Als toeschouwers erbij een probleem gaat worden, zal het vliegen buiten Europa helemaal een probleem worden. Ze mogen blij zijn als ze zoveel mogelijk races binnen Europa kunnen houden.
  Er zijn voldoende mooie circuits.

  Zou goed kunnen dat je een beetje dezelfde circuits gaat krijgen in 2021, voordat de meeste mensen in de wereld vaccinaties hebben gehad, en het ook nog werkt, dan zal 2021 wel voorbij zijn mag je aannemen.
