Max Verstappen rekent Hongarije tot hoogtepunten van 2020

De Hongaarse Grand Prix was voor Red Bull Racing-coureur Max Verstappen een van de hoogtepunten van het voorbije Formule 1-seizoen. Op een vochtige Hungaroring gleed de Nederlander in zijn ronde naar de grid van de baan en beschadigde daarbij de voorvleugel en de voorwielophanging. Door geweldig werk van zijn monteurs kon hij toch van start gaan.

Verstappen finishte die race vervolgens als tweede, alsof er vooraf niets gebeurd was. Hij bedankte zijn monteurs in de uitloopronde uitvoerig en rekent die Grand Prix dan ook tot de hoogtepunten van 2020. "De laatste race van het seizoen verliep voor ons perfect, ook al was het misschien een beetje saai. De winst op Silverstone was ook bijzonder. Elke zege is een hoogtepunt, maakt niet uit of de race saai was of niet."

"Maar voor mij was Hongarije ook een van de hoogtepunten", vervolgt de Nederlander. "Met alle drama voor de start, ik belandde in de muur in mijn ronde naar de grid. De monteurs haalden vervolgens een kunststukje uit door de wagen in recordtempo te repareren en ik finishte nog als tweede. Dat was een fantastisch resultaat."

Beste seizoen tot nu toe

Max Verstappen denkt dat hij zijn beste Formule 1-seizoen tot dusver achter de rug heeft. In gesprek met Olav Mol en Jack Plooij van Ziggo Sport verklaarde hij: "Ik kijk altijd heel kritisch naar mezelf of er iets beter kan. Ik denk dat ik altijd de eerste ben die dat zal toegeven. Ik denk dat ik dit seizoen weer beter gepresteerd heb dan vorig jaar."

"Dat is wat je wilt. Je wil zo constant mogelijk presteren zonder fouten te maken. Natuurlijk zijn er altijd momenten die beter kunnen, maar ik denk niet dat er een coureur is die een heel seizoen foutloos is, ook Lewis Hamilton niet. Je probeert altijd aan jezelf te werken en ook voor volgend jaar weer. Ik mag zeker niet klagen over 2020. Ik denk dat het mijn beste seizoen tot nu toe was."

  brabbelt alleen nog maar een paar woordjes Engels en Portugees.
  Kvyat schijnt haar zelden te zien. Max daarentegen ..... 😊
