Daniel Ricciardo: "McLaren doet niks onder voor fabrieksteams"

Het team van McLaren is op geen enkele manier inferieur aan de volwaardige fabrieksteams. Dat oordeel velt Daniel Ricciardo, die deze winter een transfer naar de Britse renstal maakte. Zijn overgang van Renault naar McLaren voor 2021 was al vroeg in 2020 beklonken.

Ricciardo legt aan Auto Hebdo uit waarom dat was: "Na het nieuws dat Carlos Sainz naar Ferrari zou verhuizen, realiseerde ik me dat dit het moment was om knopen door te hakken. Het was geen makkelijke beslissing, het seizoen was nog niet eens begonnen. Het viel me nog zwaarder om het aan Renault te vertellen, maar ik heb mijn keuze gebaseerd op het seizoen 2019. Dat was een moeilijk jaar voor mijn vorige team."

Bij McLaren komt de Australiër bij een team met een rijke geschiedenis terecht. "Je zou het een stap terug kunnen noemen, van een fabrieksteam naar een klantenteam, ware het niet dat het klantenteam McLaren betreft", vervolgt Ricciardo. "Deze renstal heeft een speciale plek in de Formule 1."

"Het is niet een of ander klein nieuw team, het is een renstal met een schitterende geschiedenis in de Formule 1 en een erelijst om u tegen te zeggen. We hebben het vaak over Ferrari en de tifosi, maar McLaren krijgt ook veel aandacht. En ja, het team maakt gebruik van klantenmotoren, maar verder doet McLaren niets onder voor de fabrieksteams. McLaren wordt alom gerespecteerd en behandeld alsof het een fabrieksteam is. De tijd zal ons leren wat ons te wachten staat, maar ik ben vol vertrouwen."

Op de vraag of hij niet teleurgesteld is om Renault na twee jaar alweer te verlaten, antwoordde Ricciardo: "Nee, ik ben trots. Ik ben trots op wat ik heb laten zien en de significante progressie die het team heeft geboekt. Ik geloof dat ik een bijdrage heb geleverd aan die vooruitgang, ik heb er in ieder geval alles aan gedaan. Twee jaar is misschien een korte periode, maar eind vorig jaar stonden we er veel beter voor dan aan het begin van 2019. Daarom stemt mijn vertrek bij Renault me wel verdrietig, maar niet teleurgesteld."

Daniel en McLaren gaat een hele goede combi worden. Vanaf 2022 hoop ik op vuurwerk van hem aan het front.

Ontopic: Ik hoop dat ze aansluiting kunnen vinden volgend jaar. Ze hebben iig de stijgende lijn te pakken.

McLaren deed vroeger niks onder voor fabrieksteams en soms hadden ze zelfs de meest dominante auto a la 1998-2000 of vroegere McLaren Honda.
Dus hopen dat ze de stijgende lijn van afgelopen jaar voortzetten en echt om de grote prijzen weer strijden. Gun ik echt(ook al ben ik geen fan van hun).

Mclaren is een autofabrikant en IS dus een fabrieksteam

op het moment dat je 4600 auto's in een jaar bouwt ben je echt geen privateer meer

  In mijn ogen is een fabrieksteam een team dat zowel de motor als chassis produceert en daarmee ook daadwerkelijk zeggenschap heeft over de ontwikkeling van beide. Dat heeft McLaren niet.

  RBR heeft fabrieksstatus bij Honda. Motor en auto worden volledig op elkaar afgestemd. Daarmee zie ik RBR ook als fabrieksteam.

  Nu nog wel @Kevin, daar heb je gelijk in, maar zodra Honda zich uit de F1 terugtrekt en alleen nog maar motoren produceert, kun je RBR en SAT niet meer als fabrieksteam beschouwen.

  Bij de aantrede van Honda hebben ze aangekondigd dat RB/AT geen fabrieksteam ging worden maar een "team met speciale status" wat volgens mij ergens tussen Klant & Fabrieksteam ligt.
