Abiteboul praat voor elke race met Esteban Ocon: "Goede adviezen"

Esteban Ocon had het in 2020 niet altijd makkelijk toen hij na een jaar afwezigheid terugkeerde naar de Formule 1. Zijn teamgenoot Daniel Ricciardo had betere resultaten en liet de Fransman vaak het nakijken hebben bij het Renault-fabrieksteam. Ocon zegt echter dat hij veel steun kreeg van teambaas Cyril Abiteboul.

Een belangrijke factor hierbij was de wetenschap dat hij in 2021 ook een contract met Renault zal hebben. "Het is belangrijk om zekerheid te hebben over de toekomst. Het maakt je mentaal stabieler en je weet dat je iets kunt opbouwen met het team waarvoor je rijdt."

Gesprek met Abiteboul

Hoewel Fernando Alonso dit jaar zijn rentree zal maken en zijn nieuwe teamgenoot wordt, zegt Ocon dat hij niet veel druk voelt binnen het team voor komend seizoen.

"Ik heb geen enkele druk gevoeld om een goed resultaat te behalen of een geweldige race te moeten rijden. Voor elke race had ik een gesprek met Cyril Abiteboul, en hij was altijd erg positief en ondersteunend. Hij gaf me goed advies, waardoor ik me ontspannen en zelfverzekerd voelde", zei Ocon.
