Oud Formule 1-coureur Adrian Campos op 60-jarige leeftijd overleden

Oud Formule 1-coureur Adrian Campos is overleden aan de gevolgen van plotseling hartfalen. De Spanjaard schreef zich eind jaren tachtig 21 keer namens Minardi in voor een Grand Prix en verscheen zeventien maal daadwerkelijk aan de start. Meer bekendheid geniet hij als oprichter, naamgever en baas van Campos Racing, dat uitkomt in diverse opstapklasses.

Adrian Campos geldt als de ontdekker van Fernando Alonso. Hij liet de latere tweevoudig wereldkampioen Formule 1 in 1999 zijn debuut maken in de eenzitters in de Euro Open by Nissan. Met zijn eigen renstal klom hij steeds verder de autosportladder op en uiteindelijk bereikte Campos Racing zelfs de Formule 1, al werd de naam van het team al snel omgedoopt tot HRT.

"Een verschrikkelijk verlies", zo omschrijft Campos Racing het overlijden van de oprichter, naamgever en baas in een persbericht. Adrian Campos is 60 jaar geworden. De gedachten gaan uit naar zijn familie, vrienden en nabestaanden en we wensen hen sterkte in deze moeilijke tijd.
