Robert Kubica heeft wel oren naar racen in de LMP2-klasse

Robert Kubica hoopt de komende weken nog ergens een zitje te bemachtigen bij een team dat uitkomt in de LMP2-klasse in het World Endurance Championship. De Pool is van mening dat het de ideale aanvulling op zijn werkzaamheden als test- en reserverijder bij het Formule 1-team van Alfa Romeo zou zijn.

Speedweek.com citeert Kubica: "Het feit is dat ik ook dit jaar weer betrokken ben bij Alfa Romeo en dus al verzekerd ben van werk. Wetende wat er gebeurde tijdens de pandemie in 2020, het was niet makkelijk om mijn Formule 1-verplichtingen te combineren met racen in de DTM en me goed te concentreren op beide."

"Als je in mijn positie in een Formule 1-auto hebt gereden, dan heb je niet veel tijd om je aan te passen aan een andere auto. Elke twee of drie maanden spring ik in de wagen en dan mag ik een vrije training of een halve testdag afwerken. Als ik dan steeds over moet schakelen naar een GT-auto, dan kost de aanpassing gewoon te veel tijd."

Hij gelooft dat dit in de LMP2-klasse in het WEC niet het geval zou zijn. "De LMP2 is nu mijn voornaamste doel en het is de categorie waarin ik graag wil racen als dit mogelijk is", aldus Kubica.
