De Mercedes-dominantie in 2020 gevisualiseerd

Ook in 2020 was het weer raak; Mercedes kwam tijdens de eerste race van het seizoen (verreweg) als sterkste uit de verf. Vaak was het gat tussen de snelste Mercedes en het één na snelste team meer dan een seconde. Pas toen het team uit Brackley vermoedelijk zou zijn gestopt met ontwikkelen van de 2020-wagen kwamen de andere teams pas wat dichterbij. Slechts drie keer wist iemand anders dan een Mercedes te winnen.

Tijdens de 70th Anniversary Grand Prix op Silverstone was tijdens de kwalificatie het gat tussen Mercedes en het één na snelste team (dat was Nico Hülkenberg die voor Sergio Perez inviel) een volle seconde. Toch wist Max Verstappen de race te winnen.

Tijdens de Grand Prix van Sakhir was het wel Mercedes die een eerste startrij in kwalificatie bemachtigde, maar toch was het Sergio Perez die de race won. Pas tijdens de Grand Prix van Abu Dhabi leek het er op dat Mercedes écht op snelheid verslagen werd.

Het is dan ook geen verrassing dat de Mercedessen verreweg het meeste aan kop hebben gereden. In de afbeelding hieronder wordt de dominantie van het team uit Brackley gevisualiseerd. Het gaat hier om ronden met Hamilton of Bottas op plek 1, ronden met Hamilton of Bottas op plek 2, of andere ronden.

Het is heel simpel.
In 2014 had de motor lichtjaren voorsprong.
Daardoor begon men al snel met de 2015 auto terwijl de rest zich doodwerkte om überhaupt te verbeteren.
In 2015 had niemand zo’n motor en halverwege was Mercedes alweer met 2016 bezig.

  @FD. Er zijn weinig coureurs die een kampioenschap winnen met een mindere snelle auto. Hamilton is hier één van.

Vertel eens wat nieuws.. We kunnen wel blijven herhalen dat na 7 jaar dominantie we toe zijn aan verandering vooraan, maar vrees dat 2021 als 8e jaar niet heel anders zal zijn.. Mercedes heeft met deze auto's en hybride motoren gewoon een winnend concept te pakken sinds 2014 en kennelijk zijn de andere teams er na zoveel jaar nog steeds niet achter wat nou precies het verschil maakt of krijgen ze het gewoon niet voor elkaar..

  Niet alleen de motor ook de rest. De veranderingen van de spelregels zorgde er ook niet voor de opschudding.
  
  Als je de regels had gelaten zoals ze waren dan waren de anderen teams dichterbij gekomen . Want perfectie nog beter maken is lastiger dan iets wat goed is beter te maken.

  Mercedes is superieur op alle vlakken. Het is niet alleen de aandrijflijn, ook de aerodynamica, de wielophanging enzovoort. Neem nu het DAS-systeem, geen enkel team heeft iets dergelijks ontwikkeld. Ferrari komt niet verder dan een quote "wij hebben er ook over nagedacht".

dat is typisch, zat onlangs nog te denken aan onze douche, wilde mozaïek betegeling aanbrengen in de kleur turquoise

toch geen gezicht bij nader inzien..

  Turquoise doet pijn aan de ogen; ik heb gekozen voor donkere betegeling (niet uit sympathie met de BLM-beweging btw) en dat ziet er wel prima uit, maar het is echt een hels karwei om het een beetje kalkvrij te houden.
