Steiner: "Mick Schumacher lijkt op zijn vader Michael"

Mick Schumacher zal in 2021 zijn debuut maken in de Formule 1 en hiermee in de voetsporen van zijn vader treden. Het is alweer een tijdje geleden dat Michael in de paddock was, maar bij Haas kunnen ze de vergelijking maken vanwege personeel dat voorheen bij Ferrari werkte met de zevenvoudig wereldkampioen.

Mick Schumacher maakt zijn debuut in Haas in 2021, waar hij Nikita Mazepin als teamgenoot zal hebben in zijn eerste jaar in de F1. De jonge Duitser heeft de afgelopen jaren kampioenschappen gewonnen in de Formule 2 en Formule 3, en maakte behoorlijk wat indruk in de instapklassen. Ook met zijn nieuwe team maakte hij goede indruk.

"We hebben een paar mensen bij Haas die eerder met Michael hebben gewerkt bij Ferrari. Ze kenden Michael heel goed en waren erg emotioneel toen Mick bij ons kwam. Ze hebben me kort uitgelegd hoe Michael vroeger werkte en ik denk dat Mick erg op hem lijkt. Hij werkt hard, hij wil alles weten, hij wil leren, hij wil gewoon beter worden. Elke dag, elk uur, elke minuut", zegt Haas-teambaas Günther Steiner tegen Motorsport.com.

Aanpassen na overstap

Schumacher heeft soms wat tijd nodig om zich aan te passen aan de nieuwe wagen waarin hij rijdt. Hij pakte bijvoorbeeld de titel in de Formule 2 en 3, beide pas in zijn tweede jaar. "Het is zoals Niki Lauda ooit zei. Hij leerde het meeste van zijn nederlagen, niet van zijn overwinningen. Als je wint, hoef je immers niets meer te leren", zo zegt Steiner.

Ik blijf het jammer vinden dat hij niet bij Alfa Romeo mocht instappen. Ik denk dat de Alfa competitiever gaat zijn dan de Haas en dat hij meer kan leren met Kimi aan zijn zijde.
