Max Verstappen zette in de eerste vrije training van de Grand Prix van Bahrein - en tevens de eerste officiële sessie van het 2021 Formule 1-seizoen - de snelste tijd neer. Waar de Nederlander aan het begin van de training meteen naar P1 ging, leek het daarna even alsof Mercedes weer de lakens uitdeelde.

Echter, in de slotfase van de eerste training, toen Max Verstappen met een nieuw setje zachte banden het Bahrain International Circuit op reed, reed de Nederlander met twee paarse sectoren naar de snelste tijd - drie tienden los van tweede plek Valtteri Bottas. Zie hieronder hoe de snelste van Max Verstappen er uit zag.

Wat me opviel, tijdens de training al is hoe scherp die RB16B instuurt. bijna elke andere wagen neemt die eerste bocht veel ruimer.
