Haas F1 Team koploper qua windtunnelsessies met auto voor 2022

Haas F1 Team lijkt zich op te kunnen maken voor een seizoen als lelijke eendje van de Formule 1, maar daar heeft de Amerikaanse renstal een verklaring voor en vrede mee. De focus ligt al volledig op volgend jaar. En dat zijn geen loze woorden, Haas F1 Team heeft namelijk al zes windtunnelsessies met de wagen voor 2022 achter de rug, bericht Auto Motor und Sport.

Dat is meer dan welk ander team dan ook, dus op dat vlak is Haas F1 Team koploper. Dit seizoen laten ze min of meer een beetje lopen, het is een overbruggingsjaar voor de Amerikaanse renstal. Over twee weken op Imola introduceert het team de enige update voor de VF-21 van dit jaar. Volgens Auto Motor und Sport gaat het daarbij om nieuwe brake ducts.

Haas F1-teambaas Günther Steiner vindt de aanpak van zijn renstal niet meer dan logisch. "De enige aanpassingen die we deze winter hebben doorgevoerd waren bedoeld om te voldoen aan de nieuwe reglementen. Dan kun je niet verwachten dat de auto sneller zal zijn. Door de regelwijzigingen verloren we downforce, dus het was een kwestie van hoe kunnen dat verlies beperken door zo min mogelijk te doen."

"Wat het pakket betreft, daar ben ik altijd open en eerlijk over geweest. Dit is wat het is voor dit jaar. Toen we in november vorig jaar begonnen met de ontwikkeling wisten we dat we de achterstand niet goed zouden maken. Waarom zouden we dan nog geld over de balk smijten? Onze wagen was slecht in 2019, niet veel beter in 2020 en dan zouden we veel investeren in een bolide die maar 23 races mee zou gaan? Dat zou gekkenwerk zijn."

"In Imola krijgen we wat nieuwe onderdelen die niet op tijd klaar waren voor Bahrein, daarna is het gedaan met de updates. Je moet je afvragen wat je terugkrijgt voor een investering. Worden we daardoor zesde of zevende? Nee, achtste was het hoogst haalbare voor ons. Dan is zo'n investering het dus niet waard, de focus ligt op de lange termijn. Dit jaar zullen we daardoor achteraan bungelen, maar het doel is om in 2022 terug te keren naar waar we in 2018 stonden (toen eindigde Haas F1 als vijfde in het constructeurskampioenschap, red.)", aldus Steiner.

En toch zal Steiner nog veel gaan vloeken dit seizoen.
Het keuze is weliswaar logisch maar ik denk dat 2022 hun laatste kansje is want Gene blijft niet met dollars gooien.

  Als er in 2022 niet constant punten gescoord wordt is Haas weg denk ik. Eigenlijk betalen ze al 2 offerseizoenen aan reiskosten etc in de hoop competitief te zijn in 2022. Dat is een te duur grapje voor een 2022 flopseizoen, dus t moet slagen.

Belachelijk....om een jaar over te slaan, waarvoor race je dan ? Elk jaar is even belangrijk om een goed resultaat na te streven. Zeker als je toch al achteraan rijd.......en dan ga je geen moeite doen om vooruit te komen ??

  Precies. Hoewel natuurlijk de regelgeving compleet anders is volgend jaar, valt qua werkcultuur heus wel iets te leren van dit jaar. Force India had in het verleden ook de middelen niet om weekend na weekend met updates te komen. Hun oplossing: We sparen alles dat we leren op en komen na de zomerstop met 1 update pakket waarvan we zeker zijn dat het werkt... Poh en wat werkte dat goed in Spa 2009!
