Franz Tost over verbeterde motor: ''Honda zit erg, erg, erg dichtbij Mercedes''

Franz Tost beweert dat Honda dichtbij het niveau zit van Mercedes. ''Honda heeft fantastisch werk geleverd. Deze motor is veel sterker en beter om er mee te rijden dan in het verleden", zei de teambaas van AlphaTauri.

Dit seizoen rijden Red Bull en AlphaTauri met een verbeterde krachtbron die smaller, krachtiger, maar ook betrouwbaarder is. Deze aanpassingen stonden gepland voor 2022, maar zijn naar voren gehaald omdat de Japanse fabrikant na dit seizoen afscheid neemt van de sport.

De vervroegde updates wierpen meteen haar vruchten af. Tijdens het eerste weekend in Bahrein deelde Max Verstappen een tik uit aan Mercedes door de poleposition te pakken met maar liefst 0.388 tienden verschil. In de wedstrijd kon de Nederlander makkelijk wedijveren met Mercedes-coureur Lewis Hamilton, maar werd verslagen op strategie. AlphaTauri viel op door de uitstekende kwalificatie van Pierre Gasly. De Fransman positioneerde zichzelf op de vijfde startpositie voor de sterk ogende McLarens, rijdend met de Mercedes-krachtbron.

''Ik denk dat Honda erg, erg, erg dichtbij Mercedes is'', concludeert Tost na de goede prestaties in Bahrein. ''Ik kan alleen maar de Japanse ontwerpers bedanken, omdat ze het geweldig gedaan hebben.'' Maar niet alleen de krachtbron heeft het verschil gemaakt volgens de teambaas. ''We hebben ons op alle vlakken verbeterd, maar we moeten de snelheid van onze tegenstanders vergeten. Als je kijkt naar McLaren, ogen ze erg sterk. Red Bull en Mercedes zijn voor mij op hetzelfde niveau. Misschien is Red Bull zelfs sneller.''

Ik denk het ook, alleen dan erg, erg,erg,erg,erg,erg dichtbij. Maar misschien zijn ze er al en beetje,beetje,beetje voorbij.

Even serieus, Mag je nu voor volgend jaar nog een nieuwe motor maken? Of moet je het doen met wat je nu hebt? Dat is me niet helemaal duidelijk met die ´bevriezing´.

  Ze gaan volgend jaar met een groter aandeel bio brandstof rijden dus daar zullen ze de motoren hoe dan ook op aan moeten passen. Vervolgens wordt de motor vanaf de eerste race “bevroren”.

  Ze lijken iig een partymod op zaterdag te hebben wat kwalificatie ten goede komt. Laten we hopen dat zij ook tijdens het racen het volhouden.

  Ik snap iets niet met dat E10. Dat kan je al geruime tijd zelf in de tank pompen bij straatauto's. Wat is daar nu zo bijzonder aan? Doet mik denken aan dat Shell jaren terug ook een 'soort van' super benzine zou zijn.
  
  Ik weet wel dat bij oudere auto's, benzine type E5 slecht voor de motoren zijn. Dat ga ik in ieder geval niet tanken voor mijn ouwe bak.

Ben benieuwd naar de betrouwbaarheid van Honda .
Ook de topsnelheid kan mij nie echt bekoren .
Volgens mij heeft Mercedes toch nog wel wa voorsprong.
