Sergio Perez: "Ik had op pole position moeten staan"

Sergio Perez kwalificeerde zich op de eerste startrij, vlak achter de Mercedes van Lewis Hamilton. De tweede plaats is de beste startpositie van Perez in de Formule 1, aangezien zijn vorige de derde plaats was tijdens de Grand Prix van Turkije in 2020.

De Mexicaan had echter op pole position kunnen staan, zo is hij stellig overtuigd van zelfvertrouwen. Hij vermoedt dat een fout in de laatste bocht van de kwalificatie hem ervan weerhield zijn eerste pole position te behalen tijdens de Grand Prix van Emilia-Romagna.

"Allereerst moet ik zeggen dat het team vandaag erg goed heeft gepresteerd. Vrijdag heb ik een fout gemaakt en ik heb de monteurs overdag hard laten werken. Ik heb het goed hersteld maar het belangrijkste is dat we vooruitgang boeken."

"Ik had nooit verwacht hier vandaag te staan. We zijn flink aan het verbeteren, maar het is gewoon belangrijk om op de tweede plaats te staan. Eerlijk gezegd had ik op pole moeten staan, maar ik maakte een fout in de laatste bocht. Ik denk dat het allemaal positief is, maar we moeten er gewoon voor zorgen dat we vooruitgang blijven boeken en uiteindelijk draait het om de race."

Regen

Hij verwacht dat er van alles kan gebeuren in de race, vooral als er regen komt zoals voorspeld. "We hebben een andere strategie dan Lewis en Max, dus het wordt interessant. We zullen zien wat we kunnen doen, maar het allerbelangrijkste: haal die punten en leer de wagen beter kennen, dat heeft mijn prioriteit."

Wat hij gisteren heeft gedaan - zie ik Albon helaas niet zo snel doen. Gasly van 'toen' ook niet.
Misschien als het tijden de race regent dan gaat Verstappen wat harder maar puur kijkend naar kwalificatie,ik zou zeggen Perez maakt het tot nu toe waar. Ongeacht wat de redenen daar achter zijn(foutjes, druk enz.), het is als een grote stap om Verstappen te verslaan. En dat in je 2de kwalificatie. Petje af. Misschien gaat Toto nu ook even nadenken waarom hij Bottas niet door Perez had kunnen vervangen toen.

  Jazeker, @FD, Perez is een grote aanwinst voor het team. Ik hoop dat hij deze GP wint. En het liefst Max dan 2e. Maar Hamilton bewijst iedere keer weer te kunnen maximaliseren dus isde kans groot dat hij 1e of 2e finisht.

  Daar heb je ook gelijk in. Ik ben geen fan van Hamilton maar hij rijdt op het randje van perfectionisme(niet over het randje zoals Schumacher/Senna maar toch) en maximaliseert inderdaad alles: gebaseerd op talent, ervaring, racecraft enz. Gewoon een perfecte allrounder. En als ik kijk hoe groot ineens de verschillen met Bottas zijn dan denk ik dat Hamilton echt alles uit de kast heeft gehaald tijdens quali. Maar wellicht heeft de versie Bottas 21.1 nog geen updates gekregen en zit daar en bug in(die daar al die tijd daarvoor ook zat trouwens). Hopelijk komt er snel een fix want anders wordt het end of story en misschien nog dit jaar Russel(hoop ik) erin aangezien die niet echt hoeft te wennen aan die Benz. Misschien gevaarlijk voor Russel zelf om dat doen in het midden van een seizoen en nota bene tegen Hamilton maar aan de andere kant, de meeste grootheden hebben altijd hun weg naar boven kunnen vinden en daardoor juist hunzelf als toppers te profileren.

Joh, gewoon geweldig gedaan. En je hebt Max verslagen, iets wat volgens de 'kenners' onmogelijk is voor 2e rijders.

  Hij klopte Max op het moment dat het rondje alle concentratie en beheersing vroeg. Max is staat ook weer even met de benen op de grond. Kop erbij houden en presteren Max.

Waar is Roya eigenlijk? De man 15000 posts. Die loopt Perez al drie weken af te fikken, is in ALLE topics nadrukkelijk aanwezig en als het tijd is om zijn ongelijk/ongeduld toe te geven is ie in geen velden of wegen te bekennen.
