Alonso mist vertrouwen: "Ik was niet snel"

Fernando Alonso kwalificeerde zich op een vijftiende plaats voor de Grand Prix van Emilia Romagna. Hij was niet enthousiast over het resultaat, wat zijn eerste nederlaag in de kwalificatie is sinds de Maleisische Grand Prix in 2017. Teamgenoot Esteban Ocon kwalificeerde zich namelijk op de negende plaats en was daarmee 4 tienden sneller dan Alonso.

De Spanjaard kijkt vooral naar zichzelf, al ziet hij een zware race in het vooruitzicht: "Ik was niet snel. De auto voelde goed aan, de balans was goed en elke keer dat ik een rondetijd neer kon zetten, was ik best tevreden met hoe ik me voelde. Maar ik was zeker niet snel genoeg om hoger te eindigen. Er valt niets meer aan te doen, ik probeer het gewoon te begrijpen en de volgende keer beter te doen."

"Het wordt een zware race waarbij ik achteraan moet beginnen. Daar komt bij dat mola niet bekend staat om zijn inhaalmogelijkheden."

Alonso mist vertrouwen

Alonso zegt dat hij meer vertrouwen moet hebben in de auto om er het beste uit te halen op circuits als Imola. "Ik moet beter begrijpen wat de limiet van de auto is. Op moeilijke circuits of op veeleisende circuits zoals deze moet je een minimaal vertrouwensniveau in de auto hebben. Omdat deze old-school circuits enig vertrouwen in de auto vereisen om de limiet te verleggen. Misschien zit ik nog niet op dat niveau."
