Kevin en Jan Magnussen rijden samen 24 uur van Le Mans

Kevin Magnussen gaat voor de allereerste keer samen rijden met zijn vader Jan Magnussen in de 24 uur van Le Mans. Het Deense duo zal met Anders Fjordback de kleuren vertegenwoordigen van High Class Racing in de LMP2-klasse.

Kevin Magnussen maakte dit nieuws met veel trots bekend op zijn Twitter. ''Hier gaan we dan! Mijn vader en ik gaan racen in hetzelfde team op Le Mans. Dit is iets wat we al jaren proberen en eindelijk is de droom uitgekomen.''

Vader Jan was in het verleden ook een F1-piloot, maar maakte geen indruk. Na een volledig seizoen bij Stewart GP in 1997, moest de Deen in 1998 zijn stoeltje na zes races afstaan aan Jos Verstappen. Opmerkelijk was dat Jan Magnussen vlak voor zijn ontslag zijn enige wk-punt behaalde in de Grand Prix van Canada.

Meer succes had Jan Magnussen in het langeafstandracen. De 47-jarige coureur won in het verleden vier keer op Le Mans (2004, 2005, 2006 en 2009) in diverse GT-klasses. Zijn laatste grootste triompf was tijdens de 24 uur van Daytona in 2015 met een zege in de GTLM-klasse.

Supervet om met je pa de 24 uren van je Le Mans te kunnen racen. Die van mij loopt helaas al jaren achter een rollator met z'n kunstknie, anders hadden we die Magnussens helemaal de moeder gereden.
