Toto Wolff gelooft dat McLaren en Ferrari 'mee kunnen doen' tijdens GP Portugal

Mercedes teambaas Toto Wolff meent dat McLaren en Ferrari "mee kunnen doen" tijdens de Grand Prix van Portugal. De Oostenrijker voorspelt dat het niet zomaar Mercedes en/of  Red Bull Racing is die vooraan het veld zullen rijden tijdens aankomend raceweekend. 

Mercedes en Red Bull Racing hebben samen de eerste twee ronden van het 2021 Formule 1-kampioenschap gedomineerd. Lewis Hamilton wist de eerste race te winnen, daar waar Max Verstappen heer en meester was tijdens de race op Imola. Beide coureurs hebben één overwinning en één pole op hun naam staan. McLaren en Ferrari reden daar achter voor "best of the rest". 

Echter, beide teams hebben veel vooruitgang laten zien over de afgelopen winterstop, en zowel Lando Norris als Charles Leclerc wisten hun wagens binnen vier tienden van de pole-tijd te kwalificeren. Toto Wolff is dan ook van mening dat deze twee teams gewoon mee kunnen doen tijdens de komende back to back raceweekenden in Portugal en Spanje. 

"Vorig jaar was onze eerste race in Portimão", zo vertelt Toto Wolff. "Het is een spannend, golvend circuit, en vorig jaar hebben we er een flink spektakel kunnen zien. Ook zagen we dat het voornamelijk in het begin van een kwalificatie-run of de eerste paar ronden van de race het niet makkelijk is om temperatuur in de banden te krijgen."

"Het is nog steeds een nieuw circuit voor iedereen. Dit maakt het reuze interessant en gedurende het weekend moeten we allemaal zien te leren. We voorspellen weer een close gevecht met Red Bull, maar ook teams als Ferrari en McLaren kunnen meedoen. We moeten dus maar gaan zien hoe dat zich uitwerkt", zo concludeert Toto Wolff.

    Kan, Het zou zomaar kunnen dat je de komende 3 races 3 andere winnaars hebt. Maar het zal wel weer tussen Lewis en Max gaan. mochten die uitvallen of crashen dan kan het wel alle kanten op. Ik zou zo´n race wel eens willen zien. Maar nu even nog niet :p

      Dan zit MB helemaal in de problemen, ze hadden al geld zorgen na de crash van hun Fin, laat staan dat ze nu 2 auto's al hebben mogen afschrijven :).

    Als Wolff het over concurrenten heeft lees ik het eigenlijk nooit. Bla bla bla sand bag bla bla bla.

    Portugal was wel een heel mooie race de eerste paar ronden vorig jaar. Een regenbuitje hier een daar is toch altijd prachtig voor de race.

      Helemaal mee eens! Ik heb niet eens de moeite genomen om het artikel te lezen. Die mensen bij Mercedes laten de boel spannender lijken dan het is. Zoals de zaken er nu voorstaan heeft RBR op dit moment de snelste wagen in de kwalificaties en Mercedes de snelste in de race. Als Lewis niet zo overmoedig geweest was, had hij Max op den duur ingehaald. Hij kwam namelijk met rasse schreden dichterbij.

      Moeten ze alleen wel even orde op zaken stellen en het niet voor zichzelf verprutsen (zowel team al coureurs). Maar die auto is gewoon goed, dus wat dat betreft moet een goed resultaat mogelijk zijn.

    Volgende bericht wordt dat Toto Wolff bang is dat Williams zelfs sneller is? Of zelfs Haas.
    Ik hoop echt van harte dat hij een keer gelijk krijgt en zijn (zeik)team om de oren wordt gereden zoals hij steeds en elke keer weer voorspelt.
    Of zal het volgende zeur bericht van Mercedes weer zijn hoe verschrikkelijk moeilijk ze het hebben met de technische vooruitgang van de andere teams.

      Stel dat Russel daadwerkelijk Bottas had ingehaald en voor hem was geeindigt wat de commentaren dan geweest waren...... Bottas had uit schaamte direct de boot naar Finland genomen.......
