Berger van mening dat Verstappen Hamilton kan onttronen: "Hij is verschrikkelijk goed"

Ex Formule 1-coureur Gerhard Berger is van mening dat Max Verstappen de kwaliteiten bezit om Hamilton te kunnen onttronen. Lewis Hamilton en Max Verstappen hebben beiden één zege en één pole op hun naam staan, en het ziet er naar uit dat het erg close zal blijven tussen beide coureurs. Echter, Gerhard Berger gelooft dat Max het in zich heeft om zijn eerste wereldtitel binnen te slepen.

Toen Gerhard Berger in de F1 Nation podcast werd gevraagd wie dit jaar de titel ging winnen, vertelde Berger dat hij voorspelt dat Verstappen zijn huidige vorm vast zal kunnen houden en er met de titel vandoor zal gaan. "Waarom niet?", zo vraagt Berger zich af. "Hij is verschrikkelijk goed. Hij heeft natuurlijk nog niet dezelfde ervaring als Hamilton, en in Bahrein lokte Hamilton Max gemakkelijk uit de tent", zo vertelt Berger verder.

"Maar hij leert erg snel en in de eerste bocht op Imola zei Max simpelweg: "Lewis, haal me maar in, maar dan ga je wel van de baan" - precies hoe dat op Bahrein ook ging", zo vertelt Berger verder. "Dus hij heeft die ervaring op zich wel, maar indien hij iets nog niet weet, dan leert hij erg snel. Het gevecht zal geweldig worden."

Ongeacht welk team er uiteindelijk zal winnen is Berger blij met de uitkomst van de races tot nu toe, en vindt het een vernieuwing om te zien dat het team van Mercedes er niet al gemakkelijk mee wegloopt. "Na zoveel jaar met het zelfde dominante team - en dat je eigenlijk al weet dat Lewis na de eerste bocht vooraan rijdt dat er dan niet meer veel zal veranderen - is het nu goed om te zien dat er een echt gevecht aankomt."

"Het is een geweldige verhaallijn om een jonge talent als Max tegen een ervaren coureurs als Hamilton te zien strijden, en ook de spanningen tussen Mercedes en Red Bull zelf lopen op", zo concludeerde Berger in de F1 Nation podcast.

Ja, want wat weet Berger nu van de F1 ? Daarom is Perez ook zo beren snel. Een verschrikkelijke goede wagen heb je dan ook zo onder de knie.

Het is nu nog allemaal: ´geweldig dat we eindelijk concurrentie hebben´ Maar de eerste dolk in de rug is al door RB gezet. Met de overname van die motorman. Hamilton vind het nu ook geweldig en Max is ook nog redelijk kalm, Maar mocht het heel het seizoen zo dichtbij elkaar zitten dan kan er wel eens een oorlogje gaan ontstaan. Gelukkig hebben ze elkaar nog niet geraakt op de baan maar dat lijkt me een kwestie van tijd.

Benieuwd wat er dan gaat geveuren, dan gaan de ´spelletjes´ pas echt beginnen.

  Een "oorlogje" kan zeker ontstaan, maar reken maar dat beide heren van binnen ook gewoon respect hebben voor elkaar en elkaar op waarde in kunnen schatten.
  
  Tussen Senna & Prost was het ook oorlog, maar uiteindelijk hadden ze ook gewoon respect voor elkaar.
