Aston Martin was te agressief met opwarmen van remmen in Imola

Aston Martin-coureur Lance Stroll heeft in Portugal uit de doeken gedaan wat de oorzaak was van de remproblemen waar zijn werkgever twee weken geleden op weg naar de startopstelling voor de Grand Prix van Emilia-Romagna in Imola last van had. De Britse renstal was simpelweg te agressief geweest bij het opwarmen van het materiaal richting de grid.

Het team moest bij zowel Stroll als bij teamgenoot Sebastian Vettel in allerijl de remmen repareren en/of vervangen. Beide coureurs kwamen met oververhitte remmen aan op de grid in Imola. Aston Martin startte een onderzoek om het tot op de bodem uit te zoeken, maar bracht daar nog geen nieuws over naar buiten.

Uit de woorden van Stroll in Portimao blijkt dat het team de problemen over zichzelf had afgeroepen. "We weten wat er mis is gegaan. Het was gewoon onze opwarmstrategie die te agressief was geweest. We hadden nog niet onder natte omstandigheden in Imola gereden en sloegen daardoor de plank behoorlijk mis, maar we weten waar het aan lag en we zitten er nu bovenop."
