Bottas: "Slechte snelheid in Imola lag 100 procent aan de banden"

Mercedes-coureur Valtteri Bottas kwam twee weken geleden bij de Grand Prix van Emilia-Romagna op het circuit van Imola niet goed uit de verf. Vooral de achtste plaats in de droge kwalificatie was een fikse tegenvaller, maar ook in de race wist hij zich in de verraderlijke omstandigheden niet op te werken. Mercedes weet inmiddels waar het aan lag dat Bottas in Imola ondermaats presteerde.

De Fin had moeite om de banden op de juiste temperatuur te krijgen, liet Mercedes-engineer Andy Shovlin weten. "Valtteri oogde op de vrijdag in Imola nog sterk en was blij met de auto. In de kwalificatie worstelde hij met de bandentemperatuur, meer dan Lewis Hamilton bijvoorbeeld. Het kleinste verschil in bandentemperatuur kan een grote impact op de grip hebben. Helaas voor Valtteri belandde hij daardoor in een moeilijke uitgangspositie, waarna het in de race niet beter ging."

Voor Bottas is het zo klaar als een klontje, het rubber was debet aan zijn tegenvallende prestatie in Imola. "We hebben de problemen uit de kwalificatie in Imola onderzocht en het lag voor honderd procent aan de banden. Mijn tijd in Q1 zou goed genoeg zijn geweest voor een plekje op de tweede startrij, maar in Q3 kwam ik niet verder dan de achtste tijd. Het is een punt van aandacht."

Vorig jaar kon hij bij het opwarmen van de banden nog een beroep doen op DAS (Dual Axis Steering), maar dat systeem is voor dit seizoen verboden. Bottas: "DAS was absoluut nuttig bij het opwarmen van het rubber, maar in Imola had ik vooral problemen met mijn achterbanden. Het DAS-systeem was alleen voor de voorbanden. Dat heeft ons vorig jaar zeker voordeel opgeleverd op bepaalde circuits, maar in Imola zou het geen verschil hebben gemaakt."

op de foto's van die gecrashte Mercedes meende ik inderdaad te zien dat de banden niet helemaal ok waren, stonden ook niet op de juiste spanning...
Dus miss heeft Bottas een punt

  Geloof mij maar als deze mannen iets weten over de banden dan zijn zij het ze voelen alles prezies aan, dat weet jij niet je hebt mischien verstand van een fietsband zullen we maar zeggen

  dat dus, en btw, van fietsbanden heb ik net zoveel verstand als van F1 banden, niets dus...

tja , tuurllijk waren het de banden! en waarschijnlijk is het de volgende keer een beschadiging aan de vloer of een ander earo probleem! dit is een beetje zoals RB het ook telkens verklaard het ligt aan alles maar nooit aan de man!

Hij heeft het hier over de kwalificatie. In de race begonnen ze allemaal met regenbanden, en toen lag het 100% aan Bottas zelf. Maar wat hij hierboven over de kwalificatie zegt kan best waar zijn, Hij zal het wel weten.

Alles wat die coureurs zeggen is natuurlijk pure onzin en smoesjes, wat weten zij er nu van. Nee zij die er echt verstand van hebben de echte kenners die zitten immers hier. En dan vooral die experts die hun kennis in slecht heel korte tijd opgebouwd hebben.
