Valterri Bottas loert in zijn glazen bol: "Het wordt spannend"

Valterri Bottas denkt niet dat de kijkers in slaap gaan vallen tijdens de derde Grand Prix van het seizoen, die dit weekend wordt verreden op het circuit in de Algarve. "Het gaat dicht bij elkaar zitten."

Zulks voorspelt de Finse Mercedes-coureur na de vrijdagtrainingen op het circuit nabij Portimâo in de Zuid-Portugese heuvels.

Bottas durft 'm wel aan: "Het is moeilijk in te schatten."

Hamilton en Bottas beproefden tijdens de tweede training de zachte rubbersamenstelling in de banden, maar de zachte band is niet om over naar huis te schrijven, meent Bottas.

"In de middagtraining zorgden de zachte banden niet echt voor een goede rondetijd. Het wordt dus spannend. Het kan vriezen, het kan dooien."

De gemiddelde weerman durft gedetailleerder te voorspellen, toch laat Bottas wél weten dat hij tevreden is over het begin van zijn raceweekend. "Het was geen slechte start als je kijkt naar de snelheid. Het is goed om te merken dat we er zijn, of ongeveer zijn. Het wordt dus zonder twijfel close, maar ik heb een soortgelijk gevoel als vorig jaar."

Toen moest hij genoegen nemen met de tweede stek achter Hamilton, die er met de poleposition vandoor ging tijdens de kwalificatie. Hoe dat morgen zal zijn, is slechts afwachten laat Bottas nog eens weten.

Verder geeft Bottas aan dat de achterkant van zijn wagen nog wat onvoorspelbaar is en dat het asfalt nog wat gladjes aanvoelt. "Hoe zachter het rubber werd, hoe linker de auto aanvoelde."

Bottas concludeert: "De mediums lijken het beste rubber te zijn. Er is dus nog wat werk te doen."

Max Verstappen werd vandaag tijdens beide trainingen tweede en wist de beide Mercedessen te splijten.

Er gaan het zien, Denk het ook.
De baan zelf is best ok maar dat asfalt is gewoon nog steeds ruk. Echt iedere rijder moet constant bijsturen in snellere rondjes. Die rode band heb je hier eigenlijk helemaal niks aan. Vooral in de race niet. Of je moet nog even het snelste rondje willen rijden. Maar normaal gesproken gaat dat gewoon een geel-wit race worden.

  Een weekje geleden ging er bij de MotoGP ook meerdere rijders zonder een zichtbare fout onderuit... Dit asfalt is gewoon super glad. Als Bottas het spannend vind op vrijdag... is Hamilton op zaterdag vaak nog een paar tienden sneller. Maar ik ben benieuwd.

  Hij zegt nergens dat het vandaag spannend was, maar voorspelt dat het tijdens de race spannend wordt.
  Maar dat is een open deur natuurlijk, het zit heel dicht op elkaar....

  Het schijnt dat de banden van Emile Ratelband's auto alleen heel hard "Tjakkaaaa" kunnen schreeuwen, maar das ook de enige uitzondering die ik ken.
