FE in Monaco voor het eerst op Grand Prix-versie

Het FIA Formule E wereldkampioenschap reist opnieuw af naar het iconische, glamoureuze vorstendom aan de Franse Rivièra voor de vierde Monaco e-Prix. Motorsportlegende Nelson Piquet omschreef het racen door de straten van Monte Carlo als 'alsof je op een fiets door je woonkamer rijdt'. Voor het eerst in de geschiedenis van de serie zullen de 24 coureurs dezelde 3.3 kilometer lange lay-out gebruiken als de Formule 1.

De laatste twee e-Prixs was op het permanente circuit van Valencia. Nyck de Vries won in regenachtige omstandigheden de eerste race van dat weekend en pakte daarmee de leiding in het kampioenschap.

Het einde van deze wedstrijd zorgde voor controverse. Veel wagens kwamen met lege accu's te staan en dat gaf een hoop chaos Tijdens elke neutralisatie moeten allen rijders 1kWh per minuut inleveren tot de race wordt hervat. De vijfde en laatste safety-car-periode was voor een handvol coureurs funest. Op de koop toe werden deze rijders ook gediskwalificeerd.

Deze bizarre situatue creëerde onvrede bij teams, rijders en fans. De overkoepelende autosportbond heeft daarom besloten dat vanaf de e-Prix in Monaco in de laatste vijf minuten van de race geen energie meer wordt afgetrokken.

Mercedes-coureur Nyck de Vries leidt het kampioenschap met 57 punten voor teamgenoot Stoffel Vandoorne die op 48 punten staat. Robin Frijns staat op de vierde plek in de stand en heeft in totaal 43 punten. De kwalificatie is vandaag om 12.00 en de zevende ronde van het kampioenschap start om 16.04.

Mooi dat de Nederlanders er goed bijzitten. Nyck is goed bezig. Meeste races zijn niet om aan te gapen, maar voor Monace FE zet ik de TV wel aan. Zeker nu ze het hele circuit rijden.

(oke hun Nouvelle is chicane is een keer zo scherp, maar aan de andere kant... Hun auto's zijn een keer zo smal en een keer zo kort dus ongeveer dezelfde momentum als dat een F1 auto heeft door de "ruimere Nouvelle".

Ik ga met des te meer bewondering naar de F1 quali kijken nu ik dit heb gezien... 16 seconden minder de tijd om te denken tijdens een zenuwslopend rondje monaco voor F1 coureurs.

  FE staat voor mij meer voor spektakel en show tewerkgesteld door kunstmatige ingrepen, kan begrijpen dat je daar niks mee hebt maar voor mij maakt dat het plezier niet minder om (fanboost en raar kwalificatie format vind ik niks).
  Tijden zijn voor mij van minder belang (en zullen ongetwijfeld verscherpt worden als we de volgende generatie wagens gaan krijgen), MotoGP is ook vaak een tiental seconde langzamer en daar hoor ik ook niemand klagen over tijden, terecht overigens.

  Mr Marly@ ik heb tot nu elke race van FE gezien ook gewoon om puur vermaak. Ik vond t even leuk om ze voor eerst te kunnen vergelijken met gevestigde klassen. Dat ze zonder slicks ruim sneller zijn dan de porsche supercup vind ik eigenlijk best indrukwekkend al.
  
  Het is ook wel echt een compliment hoe bizar snel F1 door de straten gaat.
