Alfa Romeo rijdt met wieldoppen tijdens 18 inch banden-test

Bandenleverancier Pirelli heeft het ontwikkelingsprogramma voor de nieuwe 18 inch-banden voor 2022 hervat op het Circuit de Catalunya nabij Barcelona. Namens Alfa Romeo kwam testrijder Robert Kubica in actie en voor Red Bull Racing nam reservecoureur Alexander Albon de honneurs waar. Vooral Alfa Romeo vestigde gisteren de aandacht op zich.

Niet zozeer door de 127 ronden die Kubica aflegde, maar meer door de wieldoppen die het team op de velgen van de achterwielen had gemonteerd. De wieldoppen dienen een dubbel doel; het is beter voor de aerodynamische werking van de auto en de warmte die vrijkomt bij het remmen blijft meer behouden en verwarmt de band zo van binnenuit.

Het concept is in 2010 in de ban gedaan omdat het weinig bijdroeg aan de show en als een overbodige kostenpost werd bestempeld. Mogelijk maken de wieldoppen in 2022 weer hun opwachting in de Formule 1. Alfa Romeo heeft er in ieder geval al mee getest.

Pirelli heeft de constructie van de nieuwe banden voor volgend jaar nagenoeg rond en verlegt nu de focus meer naar de verschillende compounds, de rubbersamenstellingen.

Albon reed gisteren 150 ronden. Vandaag zal ook Alpine-testcoureur Daniil Kvyat op het asfalt verschijnen.

sta dan ook die haaievinnen maar weer toe, als we ze toch lelijk maken doen we het goed

Of van die pinnen er op om bij wielbangen je tegenstanders wat beter van je af te kunnen houden.

er is nogal een verschil tussen wieldoppen, of wielen. wieldoppen plan je over je bestaande banden, nieuwe velgen , zoals 18 inch zijn volledig nieuwe wielen. Knap werk weer voor de beste site van GPToday.nl

  Je uitleg van het verschil tussen velgen en wieldoppen raakt kant noch wal.
  Daarnaast betreft het wel degelijk "wheelcovers" dat dus gewoon wieldoppen zijn zoals je ook in de foto's kan zien en in de beschrijving kan lezen.
