Ralf Schumacher over Vettel: "Hij heeft nog drie races om Stroll de baas te zijn"

Sebastian Vettel kende een teleurstellend seizoen in 2020 tijdens zijn laatste jaar bij Ferrari. Veel fans hoopten dan ook dat hij in een nieuwe, frisse omgeving zijn oude vorm weer terug kon vinden. De feiten tonen echter een ander beeld. Veelal was teamgenoot Lance Stroll sneller dan de viervoudig wereldkampioen.

Je zou kunnen beargumenteren dat hij nieuw in het team is en aan de auto moet wennen. Echter, Ex Formule 1-coureur Ralf Schumacher is van mening dat iemand van het kaliber van Sebastian Vettel nog slechts drie races heeft om zich te bewijzen voordat de excuses op zijn over waarom Vettel niet sneller dan Stroll is.

"Tijdens de komende paar races is het Vettel zijn taak om zijn teamgenoot te domineren", zo vertelt Ralf Schumacher aan Sky Sports Deutschland. "Hij is een viervoudig wereldkampioen. Hij moet wel."

"Als hij uiteindelijk niet flink beter is en daadwerkelijk in staat is om het team naar een nieuw niveau te tillen, dan moet je je op een gegeven moment afvragen of hij het wel allemaal waard is", zo vraagt Ralf zich retorisch af.

Schumacher vertelt verder: "Maar we zijn er nog niet. We moeten hem nog twee of drie races geven, maar daarna moet het probleem van het wennen aan de Aston Martin wel voorbij zijn."

Irritatie

Schumacher is van mening dat Vettel wel degelijk geïrriteerd zal zijn van het feit dat Lance Stroll op dit moment beter presteert. "Ik weet nog van de Formule 1 dat je - ook al is het een vrije training - aan jezelf begint te twijfelen als je achter je teamgenoot staat. Je gaat jezelf dan dingen afvragen als 'hoe komt het dat hij in die bocht sneller is', of 'hoe komt het dat hij tien meter later kan remmen dan ik'", zo legt Schumacher uit.

Schumacher besluit: "Dit knaagt aan Vettel, en dat is iets wat we al kunnen zien aan hem tijdens sommige interviews."

  De kans is erg groot dat Bottas blijft.Tenzij Bottas ambitie heeft kampioen te worden. Bottas zal het nooit toegeven, maar hij weet ook wel dat hij kansloos is naast Hamilton.
  Heb ik al eens eerder geschreven. Russell is nog lang niet klaar voor Mercedes vind ik. In de Williams leert hij rondjes rijden, maar knokken op de baan leert hij er niet. Hij rijdt altijd maar in vrije lucht. De fout bij de crash met bottas, de overreactie toen bottas strakop de droge lijn bleef, maar ook toen hij zich eenvoudig liet verschalken door Latifi in een rechtstreeks gevecht. Het zegt mij genoeg.
  Het is beter dat Russel naar een middenmoter vertrekt en daar zijn aanvals- en verdedig kwaliteiten verbetert.
  
  Ondertussen zou Ocon beter naast Hamilton passen. Die is geestelijk enorm sterk geworden. En sinds zijn terugkeer heb ik hem amper zien clashen met andere rijders.
  
  Maar wat ik al zeg. Bottas doet zijn werk meer dan goed.Mercedes gaat hem niet wegsturen gok ik.

  Tsjah. Mickey Mouse baan. Ik heb werkelijk geen enkele goede inhaalactie gezien van Russell. Er was altijd een mega verschil in banden (bij Bottas) of een overkill aan vermogen (Mercedes). Dat hij in vrije lucht hard kan gaan had ik al gezegd. Hijrijdt niet anders dan in vrije lucht bij Williams.
  
  Ik ben ook een fan van Russel, maar de hele hype rond hem is gebouwd door de Engelse journalisten rond zijn erg goede kwalificatie record en om die ene nietszeggende race.
  
  Elk gevecht zit Russel er knullig uit. Elke kans op punten met de Williams heeft hij tot nu zelf om zeep gehaald. Uiteindelijk zal hij top zijn en ik schat in dat Russel meer kans heeft op een kampioenschap dan Verstappen (omdat Russel uiteindelijk in de Mercedes komt) Maar nu is hij niet goed genoeg. Laat hem eerst een paar mooie gevechten winnen en een puntje of twee scoren dit seizoen. Met Williams.Dan zal ik mijn mening herzien.

Vettel, als 4-voudig WK, krijgt nog 3 races om zich te bewijzen en Perez (geen WK) moet zich dit weekend al bewijzen.... Is toch ook niet eerlijk??? 😉

Vettel is een sympathieke kerel (naast de baan nochthans), maar is als coureur helaas allang over zijn hoogtepunt heen. Hij kan na dit seizoen beter wat anders gaan doen.
