Kevin Magnussen verliefd op IndyCars en aast op een test

Kevin Magnussen aast op een zitje in een IndyCar voor een test. Hij is verliefd geraakt op de snelle Amerikaanse race-klasse nadat hij aanwezig was bij de eerste vrije trainingsdagen voor de fameuze Indy 500.

De Deense oud F1-coureur rijdt voor het Sports Car-team van Chip Ganassi dit jaar en daarom bracht hij een bezoek aan Indianapolis Motor Speedway waar hij luisterde naar de teamradio van zijn voormalige F1-collega Marcus Ericsson.

390 km/u zonder te remmen

Kevin Magnussen: "Eerst ben ik maar eens op de grote tribunes gaan kijken en ik zag hem daar door de eerste twee bochten gaan. Ik kon bijna naar de rand van de baan lopen waar de auto's voorbij blazen met zo'n 390 kilometer per uur en dan richting de eerste bocht gaan zonder te remmen."

De 28-jarige Deense coureur heeft het van geen vreemde: zijn vader Jan Magnussen racete ook in de snelste Amerikaanse open-wiel-klasse. Magnussen heeft zijn baas nu laten weten dat hij wel oren heeft naar een test in een IndyCar.

Verliefd

Magnussen: "Chip Ganassi is er nu helemaal van bewust hoe gek ik ben van de IndyCar. Dat heb ik ze nu heel vaak verteld", aldus Magnussen die verliefd klinkt op de Amerikaanse raceklasse. "Als er een kans zich voordoet om te testen, dan ben ik er klaar voor.

Drukke agenda

"Volgend jaar rijd ik voor het nieuwe Le Mans-team van Peugeot en dat is in eerste instantie een overeenkomst van drie jaar. het zal dus waarschijnlijk wel moeilijk worden om ook de Indy 500 te doen.

Magnussen troost zich: "Maar ach, ik ben nog vrij jong. Op een gegeven moment zal ik willen proberen om een IndyCar over een oval te sturen, dat is zeker. Deze ovals beroeren mij meer dan gewone circuits. Het is ongekend wild."

Haas F1

Magnussen werd eind vorig jaar de deur gewezen na zijn jarenlange dienstverband voor Haas F1. Het team koos voor jong talent in de vorm van Mick Schumacher en Nikita Mazepin.
