Carlos Sainz heeft de smaakt te pakken en droomt van pole position in Monaco

Carlos Sainz verwacht niet dat hij of zijn teamgenoot poleposition kunnen pakken vandaag in Monaco, maar hij droomt er inmiddels wel van. Donderdag domineerden de Ferrari's in de straten van het prinsdom.

Carlos Sainz was tijdens de eerste training tweede achter Sergio Perez. Charles Leclerc moest vooral toezien hoe zijn monteurs sleutelden aan de Ferrari na een probleem met de versnellingsbak. Die moest worden gewisseld. Toen die klus was geklaard, kwam Charles Leclerc als snelste uit de bus tijdens de tweede vrije training. Sainz werd toen wederom tweede. De Ferrari's maakten indruk en het was voor het eerst in jaren dat Ferrari een sessie als eerste en tweede wist af te ronden.

'Ferrari-coureur' Giovinazzi hangt de vlag uit

Antonio Giovinazzi maakt als Alfa Romeo-coureur onderdeel uit van de Ferrari Driver Academy en hij is niet verbaasd over de snelheid die het rode team aan de dag legt in Monaco.

Tegen Sky Italia zegt Giovinazzi: "Nee, we zagen dat al in Barcelona in het laatste deel van het circuit. Daar waren zij al heel snel in de langzame bochten."

Hij voegt er aan toe: "Ik ben een Ferrari-coureur en ik ben heel blij met wat ik heb gezien tot nu toe."

Ferrari-coureur Sainz is realistisch

Ferrari-coureur Carlos Sainz is wat voorzichtiger, hij wijst erop dat Mercedes en Red Bull de snelste teams blijven in 2021. Toch sluit hij niet uit dat Ferrari wel eens voor een stevige verrassing kunnen blijven zorgen, ook in de kwalificatie.

Sainz: "Zoals we in Spanje zeggen; dromen kost niets."

Vrijdag zei Carlos Sainz dat hij lekker zou kunnen slapen voordat zaterdag met de kwalificatie het uur van de waarheid aanbreekt. "Vanavond ga ik dromen, wetende dat het niet eenvoudig gaat zijn. Mercedes en Red Bull hebben betere auto's en als zij snelheid weten te vinden richting zaterdag dan zouden zij voor ons moeten staan."

Hij vervolgt: "Maar wie weet, wij zullen onze stinkende best blijven doen en dan zien we waar wij staan."

Bottas en Verstappen niet blij met hun bolides

Ondertussen zijn Valtteri Bottas en Max Verstappen bezorgd om hun snelheid. Tegen ZiggoSport zegt Verstappen dat de auto niet goed genoeg is voor pole.

Verstappen zegt tegen Olav Mol: "We moeten echt iets in de auto zien te vinden om Ferrari en Mercedes te kunnen verslaan."

Ik hoop uiteraard met Carlito mee, maar ik ga ervan uit dat er gewoon weer een Mercedes of Red Bull op pole staat.

Is idd net te ver weg de pole, maar in de straten van monaco is motorpower alleen na de eerste bocht het voordeel daarna valt het mee en is bochten snelheid heel erg belangrijk en kan je wellicht daar meer voordeel uithalen. we gaan het zien.... en ik hoop :)

Ik was erg op mijn hoede voor de komst van Sainz. Hij heeft zich ondertussen bijzonder goed aangepast en stijgt stilaan in mijn achting. Ondanks een lichte voorkeur voor Leclerc, kan het mij weinig schelen wie de potten gaat breken voor Ferrari.

  Ik ben juist erg blij met de komst van Sainz. Ben al mijn hele leven een aanhanger van Ferrari (veroorzaakt door Schumacher), maar heb echt helemaal niets met Leclerc. De komst van Sainz zorgt ervoor dat ik met nog net iets meer plezier kan juichen voor de rode bolides. Ik ben uiteraard ook tevreden wanneer Leclerc de rest het snot voor de ogen rijdt, maar op de een of andere manier heb ik gewoon helemaal niks met hem.

Graag! Lijkt me super leuk als dat hem lukt. Hamilton, Verstappen, Perez en Bottas er vlak achter. Hopelijk heeft hij het telefoonnummer van Enrique Bernoldi nog ergens, hij gaat zijn advies nodig hebben.
