Jean Todt laat Michael Schumacher niet met rust: "Ik bezoek hem minstens twee keer per maand"

Jean Todt zegt dat hij F1-legende Michael Schumacher "minstens twee keer per maand" bezoekt. De FIA-president en voormalig Ferrari-teambaas onderhoudt zijn nauwe band met de zevenvoudig wereldkampioen sinds Schumacher eind 2013 ernstig hoofdletsel opliep bij een ski ongeluk.

"Ik zie Michael minstens twee keer per maand," vertelde Todt, 75, aan de Italiaanse Corriere della Sera. "Ik laat hem niet met rust. Hij, Corinna, de familie - we hebben zo veel ervaringen samen gehad. De schoonheid van wat we hebben meegemaakt is een deel van ons en gaat door."

De huidige fysieke conditie van Schumacher is een totaal mysterie, en Todt wil daar niet over praten.

Wat Michaels zoon Mick betreft, is de Fransman meer openhartig: "Hij is nederig en beleefd, ook al worden zijn ambities voorlopig beperkt door een auto die niet competitief is."

Voormalig F1 wereldkampioen Nico Rosberg was echter kritisch over de 22-jarige Haas-coureur, die na twee afzonderlijke crashes de kwalificatie moest uitzitten in Monaco.

"Een crash is oké, twee is er een te veel", zei hij tegen Sky Duitsland. "Het seizoen is tot nu toe voor hem voorbij, dat is een tegenslag voor hem. De andere rookies waren hier beter."

Ralf Schumacher verdedigde echter zijn neef. "Ja, ik ben de oom van Mick, maar we hebben allemaal fouten gemaakt. Daar moeten we het bij laten. We hebben geen van beiden ooit in een auto gezeten die zo slecht is als die van Mick", zo reageerde Schumacher op Rosberg.

  Eerlijk is eerlijk ik vraag me ook af wat Todt precies wil. Ze waren natuurlijk jarenlang teamgenoten en collega's, maar zegt Todt hier nu wat dit is wat Schumacher ook wil ?
  Of wat de familie graag wil ?
  Dit kan evengoed iets zijn wat Todt voornamelijk voor zichzelf en voor de buitenwereld doet en mededeelt.
  Maar misschien is dit mijn cynische aard aan het woord.

zal hij bij kennis/verstand zijn? Is hij verlamd? We kunnen alleen maar hopen op beide niet. Maar ik vrees toch het ergste. als hij alleen lichamelijke schade had gehad hadden we hem echt wel een keer gezien.

  Al was het idd alleen al in een rolstoel om zijn zoon zijn debuut te kunnen zien maken.
  
  Het blijft aannames, maar ik ben bang dat wanneer je hem nu in t gezicht aan kijkt, een ander persoon ziet... al was het alleen al om hoe scherp en gefocust schumacher altijd uit zn ogen keek.

Dan doet Todt er goed aan om niet steeds de media te zoeken met de verhalen dat hij zo goed is om bij Schumacher langs te gaan. Mocht het een antwoord zijn op een vraag van een journalist, dan kan je er ook voor kiezen om niks te zeggen. De familie wilt er niets over zeggen, dus laat het dan ook gewoon zo. Er is een nieuwe generatie Schumacher in de Formule 1. Richt je daarop.

Van Todt heb ik geen hoge pet op als het gaat om zijn FIA Presidentschap. Als teambaas veel meer, wat hij voor elkaar kreeg in het Peugeot Prototype programna en met Ferrari is erg knap.

Maar de mens Todt lijkt me een warm persoon.
Dat zag je soms op de podiums, innig knuffelend met zijn rijders.

Dat hij nu zo'n steun is voor Michael en zijn familie, laat zien dat het een man is die zijn vriendschappen heel serieus neemt.
