Britse advocaat Graham Stoker wil Jean Todt opvolgen als FIA-president

Volgens het Algemeen Nederlands Persbureau stelt de Britse advocaat Graham Stoker zich kandidaat om Jean Todt op te volgen als voorzitter van de internationale autosportbond FIA.

De Fransman is ook de jongste niet meer en heeft aangeven af te treden in december. In 2009 volgde Todt de gisteren overleden Max Mosley op als FIA-president.

Graham Stoker is geen onbekende voor Todt. Stoker is nu sportief directeur bij de FIA. De FIA bestuurt ondermeer de Formule 1, maar ook bijvoorbeeld het Europees kampioenschap Karting en de Porsche Supercup.

Stoker werkte al veel samen met Jean Todt. In een slim ingestoken persbericht stelt hij dan ook dat hij graag zou "voortbouwen op het uitstekende werk dat voorzitter Jean Todt de afgelopen twaalf jaar heeft verricht", zo meldt het ANP.

Er is ook al nagedacht wie dan de huidige functie van Stoker zou moeten overnemen, mocht het dan zo uitpakken dat Stoker ook daadwerkelijk zou worden verkozen tot FIA-president.

Dat lijkt echter vooral een formele kwestie.

De zaak lijkt al geheel in kannen en kruiken. Mocht Stoker dan daadwerkelijk worden verkozen, dan kan de Deense Tom Kristensen die vacante plek direct opvullen.

Kristensen wist maar liefst negen keer de 24 uur van Le Mans te winnen. Hij is in de race om plaatsvervangend sportief directeur te worden bij de Federation Internationale de l'Automobile

Stoker heeft al iemand op het oog die zijn rol overneemt indien hij wordt gekozen tot voorzitter van de FIA. Dan wordt de Deen Tom Kristensen, negenvoudig winnaar van de 24 Uur van Le Mans, plaatsvervangend sportief directeur.

De Brit is de tweede kandidaat voor het voorzitterschap van de FIA. Voormalig rallyrijder Mohammed bin Sulayem uit Dubai heeft zich eerder aangemeld om Todt op te volgen.

Op zich een logische opvolger, denk ik. Geen spel tussen te krijgen. Immers, bij ons volgt ook na de Todt veelal de Stoker, toch? ;-)

Dat zou hij misschien best willen, maar FIA regels schrijven voor dat 3 termijnen het maximale is of ouder dan 75 bij nieuwe verkiezingen.

Laat ik hier eens wat heel geks gaan zeggen nu: Even stoppen met nieuwe Britten in hoge functies benoemen die met F1 te maken hebben. De Britse invloed op de F1 is al zo ontzettend gigantisch groot, de F1 lijkt wel een open-Brits F1 kampioenschap heb ik wel eens het idee. Zelf op de officiële F1 youtube kanalen alleen maar Britten te zien en te horen. Ook ergerlijk dat 7 van de 10 teams hun basis hebben op dat eiland. 1 grote clusterfuck daar in het VK.
Kijk dus ook eens naar andere nationaliteiten als optie...over diversiteit gesproken!
