Max Verstappen heeft de juiste flow te pakken: "Nu niets verprutsen"

Na zijn overwinning heeft Max Verstappen de smaak goed te pakken. Als WK-leider komt hij komende week aan in Azerbeidzjan voor de GP van Baku. Ondanks dat het niet zijn favoriete baan is, is Verstappen niet van plan nu te verslappen.

Max Verstappen zegt in een vooruitblik op de Grand Prix tegen zijn eigen website: "Het is ook heel makkelijk om een fout te maken in Monaco. Je moet ronde na ronde gefocust blijven, maar afgelopen zondag voelde het erg goed om de race te leiden en te controleren. Ik was niet van plan om mijn eerste overwinning in Monaco weg te verprutsen, dat is zeker."

Natuurlijk wordt er nog stil gestaan bij de sportgeschiedenis die Verstappen schreef door de Grand Prix van Monaco op zijn naam te schrijven vorig weekend. Verstappen kijkt tevreden terug.

Verstappen: "Het was een heel goed weekend. Ik had daar natuurlijk nog nooit op het podium gestaan, dus het was erg mooi om de overwinning te pakken. Aan de leiding gaan in het kampioenschap voelt goed, maar daar moeten we aan het einde van de laatste race staan, dat is het enige dat telt", zo klink het nuchter.

Dingen kunnen snel veranderen

Verstappen vervolgt: "Waar we nu staan, voelt goed en het toont natuurlijk dat we het jaar goed zijn begonnen. Maar we moeten blijven pushen omdat we nog moeten verbeteren en het beter moeten doen. Niemand is ooit perfect of staat stil in deze sport. Tot dusver hebben we enkele kleine fouten gemaakt, maar niets groots en daarom staan we momenteel eerste. Maar we weten allemaal dat het heel snel kan veranderen."

Lessen van Monaco

"We hadden het donderdag moeilijk in de vrije training, maar het Red Bull Racing-team heeft veel werk verzet om ervoor te zorgen dat de auto op zaterdag een stuk beter was. Aan het begin van het weekend hadden we het niet helemaal goed voor elkaar. Het was niet allemaal gemakkelijk, maar de data is heel goed geanalyseerd en we wisten de auto voor de kwalificatie weer erg competitief te krijgen, zodat we de strijd aan konden gaan."

Ik hoop dat het lang spannend blijft en mer en soms Lewis zullen niet blijven fouten maken.

Max geeft in interviews aan dat hij hoopt op het podium te komen, dat is ook echt meteen het maximaal haalbare, MB heeft een dermate hoge topspeed dat er niet meer inzit dan een mogelijke plek 3. Toen Jos zei dat RB op ALLE vlakken moest gaan verbeteren werd het stil, ik ga er echt vanuit dat hij op de vingers is getikt, want je kijkt er doorheen dat deze info van MAX komt natuurlijk. Uitsluitend en alleen indien Honda de motor zoals Bahrein nivo of verder dan Bahrein kan verbeteren dan alleen is er nog een kans.
