Bottas hint op F1-toekomst en verwacht snel onderhandelingen met Mercedes

Valtteri Bottas heeft onthuld dat hij geen gesprekken heeft gehad met Mercedes over een nieuw contract, maar dat hij verwacht dat dergelijke gesprekken snel zullen plaatsvinden. De huidige overeenkomsten tussen de Finse coureur en zijn Duitse team loopt na dit seizoen af, waardoor er weer volop gespeculeerd wordt over zijn toekomst.

Mercedes-junior George Russell wordt alom geprezen als een toekomstig coureur voor het Mercedes-fabrieksteam en dat zou zelfs ten koste kunnen gaan van Bottas, met 2022 mogelijk het jaar waarin de verandering plaatsvindt.

Focus op kampioenschap

Uiteindelijk weten we echter niet zeker hoe de zaken zullen verlopen en Bottas geeft toe dat er tot nu toe niet veel in dialoogvorm is gepraat met het team, hoewel hij verwacht dat dit de komende weken zal veranderen. In Azerbeidzjan zei hij: "We hebben het nog niet besproken, want dit is een behoorlijk veeleisend kampioenschap en we weten hoe belangrijk het is om in alle rust te kunnen werken. Het belangrijkste is om je te concentreren op je prestaties, dat is wat telt."

"Maar de tijd dat we gaan praten zal zeker komen. Omdat we binnenkort naar periode toegaan met double en triple headers zal de tijd snel gaan. Ik kan me dat natuurlijk voorstellen dat je in de komende maand moet beginnen te praten en ik weet uit eerdere ervaringen dat hoe eerder je dingen kunt regelen, hoe beter voor iedereen."

Bottas kende dit jaar tot nu toe weer geen geluk, met uitvalbeurten en wisselende resultaten. Tijdens de Grand Prix van Monaco werd hij door een trieste manier gedwongen om zijn race te stoppen, door een vastgelopen wielmoer, terwijl hij met Max Verstappen in gevecht was om de zege. De Red Bull-coureur won uiteindelijk in het prinsdom.

Sommige vinden Bottas sympathiek, andere vinden het een sufferd. Wat hij in ieder geval NIET is is cool, bloedsnel, agressief, grappig of controversieel. Het is eigenlijk gewoon een nietszeggend persoon. Om die reden snap ik niet waarom MB hem het merk laat vertegenwoordigen.

Laat Bottas nou eens los en zet Russel in die auto! Als Hamilton niet bijtekent dan graag met een geheel nieuwe line up, maar Mercedes kennende gaan ze voor safe en houden ze Hamilton aan, als ze er uitkomen, of anders Bottas. Tekent Hamilton dan zal het Hamilton - Bottas worden. Indien Hamilton niet bijtekent zal het Bottas - Russel worden. Met het oog op de nieuwe regels zal Mercedes niet het risico nemen om twee nieuwe coureurs in die auto's te zetten, dan wil je minimaal 1 coureur die het team al kent.

Hoe zien jullie dit, zit ik er naast qua Mercedes gedachte?

  Lijkt me logisch, maar alles staat of valt toch met wat het team als geheel gaat doen.
  Maar met Wolff erbij zal dit vast wel de uitkomst worden... hoewel wat Bottas nu zegt ?
  Ik denk dat 'ie toch meer zijn hoop uitspreekt dan dat 'ie het echt verwacht en erop rekent.

  Bottas zijn contract onderhandelingen zijn al gedaan. Hij kreeg een briefje van Toto met daarop: “Bedankt dat je al die jaren zo een goede 2e coureur was. Succes met het vinden van een nieuwe baan!”
  
  Bottas doelt op de onderhandelingen met de andere teams. Misschien gaat hij Kimi vervangen bij Alfa Romeo. Die houden daar wel van uitgerangeerde Finnen die bij een topteam vandaan komen. (Sorry Kimi)

We onderhandelen hier al jaaaaaren over Bottas bij Mercedes, daar hoeft de Fin zich niet dik over te maken. ;)

welnee, Er was helemaal niemand in gevecht met Max, Als er iemand te dichtbij kwam gaf hij even gas. Die was gewoon zijn bandjes aan het sparen

Ik zie liever een andere coureur bij Mercedes maar Bottas doet wat van hem wordt verwacht. Ik zie daarom geen reden om een overschatte Russel in die auto te zetten.

Die jongen heeft talent maar laat ook knullige fouten zien. Die ene race voor Mercedes was ook meteen de makkelijkste. Rechtoe rechtaan baantje. Ja die move op Bottas was mooi maar daarvan is bekend dat ie niet kan verdedigen.

Wil je toch van Bottas af zet dan Vettel in die wagen. Dan heb je 11 of 12 kampioenschappen in 1 team en voor Mercedes de Duitse coureur. Of Hulkenberg die toch ook wel wat moois kan maar het op cruciale momenten heeft laten liggen helaas.

Russel heeft mij nog niet overtuigd om in die Mercedes te zetten.

Vettel voor Bottas, Bottas naar Williams, Russel naar Aston Martin.

  Dat russel talent heeft is geen discussie. Ik ben het met je eens dat Russel eens iets moet laten zien op zondag in die Williams.
  
  In tegenstelling tot Wehrlein, heeft Russel tot nu elke kans op punten ook om zeep geholpen.
