Tsunoda presteert beter na donderpreek van Helmut Marko: Achtste startplek in Oostenrijk

Yuki Tsunoda presteert aanzienlijk beter na een donderpreek van Helmut Marko. Na zijn crash tijdens de kwalificatie in Frankrijk vorig weekend, is hij stevig toegesproken door Helmut Marko.

Na de kwalificatie in Oostenrijk voor de GP van Stiermarken, denkt Yuki dit weekend goed weg te komen en het nu zonder bestraffende woorden van Helmut Marko af te kunnen.

Yuki presteert nu beter na 'druk' van Helmut Marko

De strenge woorden van Marko hebben geholpen: de Japanner pakte een achtste startplaats in de kwalificatie van de Grand Prix van Stiermarken. Teamgenoot Pierre Gasly deed het nog beter: de Fransman reed de AlphaTauri naar de zesde startplek. Daarmee is hij zelfs nog sneller Charles Leclerc in de Ferrari.

Opluchting

Yuki is opgelucht en denkt dat hij dit keer niet op zijn falie zal krijgen, zo vertelt hij na afloop van de kwalificatie. De Japanner is na de kwalificatie op de Red Bull Ring dan ook opgelucht.

Tsunoda vertelt: "Ik ben echt heel erg blij. Het was een hele goede verbetering ten opzichte van mijn crash in Frankrijk. Het team heeft voor mij heel erg goed werk geleverd vanaf de eerste vrije training. Daarom was ik dan ook behoorlijk op mijn gemak."

"Tijdens de kwalificatie kreeg ik het allemaal gewoon goed voor elkaar. Ik ben blij. Ik was veel te gehaast tijdens de eerste zeven races en ik wilde nu graag elke keer snel verbeteren."

Toch nog straf voor Yuki?

Of Yuki inderdaad niet over de spreekwoordelijke knie moet, valt nog te bezien. De wedstrijdleiding heeft hem namelijk gevraagd om uitleg te komen geven over het incident tussen hem en Bottas in het derde kwalificatiedeel. De Fins Mercedes-coureur werd tijdens diens snelle ronde gehinderd door de AlphaTauri met daarin de Japanner.

Geen waarschuwing

Tsunoda legt uit dat hij niet goed werd gewaarschuwd door zijn team. Toen hij door had dat hij Bottas in de weg zat, kon Tsunoda geen kant op, vertelt hij. Op beelden valt te zien dat hij inderdaad moeilijk nog kon uitwijken.

In het ergste geval krijgt de Japanner hiervoor een straf van de FIA, maar hij kan er ook goed mee weg komen na een stevig gesprek en een waarschuwing; het zit er dus dik in dat Yuki 'the rookie' Tsunoda nog een lastig gesprek tegemoet gaat, dit keer met de wedstrijdleider.

Mocht alles mee zitten voor de jonge Janpanner, dan start Yuki Tsunoda zondag dus vanaf zijn achtste startplek in de Grand Prix van Stiermarken. In Spielberg doven morgenmiddag de lampen boven het rechte stuk om 15:00 uur.
