Helmut Marko denkt dat Red Bull Racing profiteert van experimenten Mercedes

Helmut Marko meent dat Mercedes "experimenteert" en dus risico's neemt waardoor Red Bull Racing nu 40 WK-punten meer heeft dan het team van Toto Wolff.

Lewis Hamilton wist drie van de eerste vier races te winnen, maar inmiddels heeft Max Verstappen vier races gewonnen van de acht races tot nu toe.

Een van die probeersels van Mercedes was om Valtteri Bottas van chassis te laten wisselen met Lewis Hamilton tijdens het Franse raceweekend.

Daarvoor was de snelheid bij Mercedes ver te zoeken op de stratencircuits van Bakoe en Monaco.

Marko: "Het algehele voordeel is dat wij tot nu toe op alle circuits snel zijn tot op de dag van vandaag."

"Wij zijn constant snel met relatief kleine veranderingen in afstellingen. Bij Mercedes zie je dat ze veel verschillende afstellingen proberen op hun auto. Hamilton krijgt dat meestal wel voor elkaar, dus hij is er op het juiste moment bij."

Marko vervolgt: "Het is duidelijk dat ze bij Mercedes nogal aan het experimenteren zijn. Monaco is daarvan een groot voorbeeld. Bottas was daar heel snel en Lewis was helemaal nergens. In Bakoe was het totaal andersom. Het lijkt wel of ze daarbij grote risico's nemen. Bij ons zijn er minder aanpassingen nodig. De auto is direct snel."

Volgens Toto Wolff heeft Mercedes het risico genomen om minder te investeren in de auto van dit jaar, omdat de focus verlegd zou zijn naar de auto voor volgende seizoenen.

Marko zegt dat Red Bull ook updates blijft doorvoeren op de huidige auto, ook in de tweede helft van dit seizoen.

"Wij ontwikkelen langer en dat is omdat wij een kans hebben om de wereldtitel te winnen. Wij zagen wat er met BMW is gebeurd in 2008. Robert Kubica had de snelste auto, maar in hun businessplan stond dat de focus al snel gelegd zou worden op 2009. In de Formule 1 moet je elke kans aangrijpen."

Volgens Marko is Red Bull achter de schermen ook vroeg begonnen aan de ontwikkeling voor de 2022-bolide. Daarbij zou het werk in de windtunnel al gedaan zijn.

Even reagerende op de titel. Totdat Helmut er volgend seizoen achter komt dat al het geëxperimenteer 0,750 heeft opgeleverd bij Mercedes en RB het nakijken heeft.

  Ik ben het met @Ouw eens. Dit jaar moet alles bij elkaar komen. Zeker in het afscheidsjaar van Honda zal men alles op alles zetten om de titel te pakken. Geen idee of dit uiteindelijk nadelig zal uitpakken voor volgend jaar (en wellicht de jaren daarna), maar nu is het de uitgelezen kans om te pieken!
