Teamplayer Perez steunt Tsunoda met rol als mentor

Yuki Tsunoda heeft Sergio Perez bedankt voor zijn hulp en steunbetuigingen tijdens een moeilijk begin in de F1 voor de debutant van dit seizoen. Zowel Tsunoda als Perez zijn dit jaar nieuw bij hun teams, respectievelijk AlphaTauri en Red Bull Racing, al is het verschil dat de Mexicaan 10 eerdere Formule 1-seizoenen achter de rug heeft.

Ze zitten onder dezelfde paraplu wat betreft het eigendom van hun teams en daarom heeft Perez Tsunoda een bericht gestuurd om zijn kop omhoog te houden na een aantal moeilijke tijden voor de Japanse coureur. Een reeks crashes, vooral tijdens de kwalificatie, heeft niet alleen het chassis van de AlphaTauri AT02 beschadigd, maar ook de reputatie van de 21-jarige coureur als een enorm veelbelovend talent, zoals die is opgebouwd door Helmut Marko, hoofd van het coureursontwikkelingsprogramma van Red Bull.

Helpende handjes

Maar terwijl de 78-jarige Oostenrijker maar al te graag de rol van 'boze vader' speelt met wat typisch publieke kritiek, is Perez meer de vriendelijke grote broer geweest in het steunen van Tsunoda. De Japanner: "Sergio geeft me veel advies, vooral na Frankrijk of Monaco stuurde hij me berichten nadat ik een heel slecht weekend had."

"Hij stuurde me advies en positieve woorden, waardoor ik meer gemotiveerd ben, dus daar ben ik Sergio dankbaar voor. Natuurlijk ben ik ook Max Verstappen dankbaar, we hebben vier coureurs van Red Bull en onderling een heel goede relatie en ik zal blijven pushen om te verbeteren en door hen geïnspireerd te worden."

Het vierde lid van dat kwartet, dat niet door Tsunoda werd genoemd, is zijn teamgenoot Pierre Gasly bij AlphaTauri. Als teamgenoten zou het niet verwonderlijk zijn dat Gasly zijn collega misschien niet al te veel zou helpen.

  Yuki is in de basis best snel, maar nog behoorlijk wisselvallig. Hij zou eigenlijk een paar dagen vrij met de auto moeten kunnen rijden om extra controle te krijgen.
