Guenther Steiner stuurt aan op contractverlening Mick Schumacher

Ralf Schumacher weet niet zeker of hij zijn neef Mick zou adviseren om in 2022 bij Haas te blijven of een overstap naar een ander Ferrari-gelinkt team te riskeren.

Volgens geruchten zou Ferrari hun junior-coureur in 2022 naar Alfa Romeo willen verhuizen.

Onlangs heeft Ferrari echter een nieuw gebouw in Maranello in gebruik genomen dat gewijd is aan het technische programma van klanten-team Haas.

Het kleine Amerikaanse team schreef 2021 van tevoren al af om zich volledig te concentreren op de nieuwe regels die geldig zijn vanaf 2022 en de jaren erna.

Focus op 2022 en de jaren erna

"Hoopt het team in 2022 een Ferrari-exemplaar te bemachtigen?" vraagt F1-journalist Roger Benoit zich hardop af in Blick.

"Duidelijk is dat Haas en Ferrari de volledige focus op de nieuwe auto's leggen", schrijft hij.

Als Haas-baas Gunther Steiner wordt gevraagd over de geruchten, geeft hij aan te hopen dat de 22-jarige Schumacher blijft.

"Het silly season is zojuist begonnen. We moeten nog het een en ander bekijken, maar we zijn niet ver verwijderd van het bevestigen van onze coureurs voor 2022."

Oom Ralf, wiens eigen zoon David afgelopen weekend een Formule 3-race in Oostenrijk won, weet niet zo goed wat hij zijn neefje Mick moet adviseren.

Bij Sky Deutschland zegt Ralf Schumacher: "Het is veel te vroeg om te oordelen. Alfa is op dit moment iets beter dan Haas. Maar de vraag is welk team zich ontwikkelt en op welke auto zij bouwen."

Schumacher heeft meestal wel een mening klaar, maar dit keer weet hij het gewoon niet, geeft hij toe: "Het komend jaar gaat er veel veranderen bij Haas, maar Alfa zit al jaren op dit niveau. Dus ik weet op dit moment niet wat mijn advies zal zijn."

Ik hoop Mick juist heel erg graag bij Alfa te zien, om zodoende te kijken wat hij kan naast bijvoorbeeld Giovinazzi. Dit geeft meteen aan hoe goed Mick is, maar ook of Gio beter is geworden.... of dat Kimi gewoon verder inkakt door zijn oudere leeftijd en het daardoor lijkt alsof Gio beter aan he... [Lees verder]

Ik kan alleen maar denken aan de Drive to Survive opmerking van onze Gunther: "If we get him we can get 5 to 8 million more".... de naam Schumacher uitbuiten is één ding, maar ik hoop wel dat ze hem meer geven qua auto en mogelijkheden dan alleen maar te gebruiken als cashcow...

  Bottas in een Haas? Die dingen die jij slikt wil ik ook! Als Bottas niet bij Mercedes blijft gaat hij terug naar Williams denk ik. Williams zal niet altijd een achterhoede team blijven.

  Eens Damon. Ik denk dat je weinig kunt zeggen over hoe de teams er volgend jaar voorstaan omdat er zo veel veranderd. Het is dan ook onmogelijk om nu te kiezen tussen Alfa en Haas puur op de stand van hun auto's dit jaar.
  Wat je wel kunt is kijken waar je de meeste uitdaging qua teamgenoot hebt zodat je ook kunt kijken waar jezelf staat. En dan kan Mick beter naar Alfa want ik schat Gio toch hoger in dan Mazepin.

  Bij Haas hebben ze tot nu toe weinig ambities getoond, alleen daarom zou Mick bij AR beter af zijn.

Haas is het verstandigste bezig kwa budget. Brawn heeft in 2008 ook de handdoek in de ring gegooid om alles op 2009 te zetten en dat pakte niet verkeerd uit. Ik ben alleen bang dat Haas op 90% van de snelheid van Ferrari komt. En als Ferrari tekort komt, dan zijn ze alsnog veroordeeld tot de achterhoede. Voordeel voor Haas is nu wel dat ze meer windtunnel tijd krijgen door de stand in het huidige kampioenschap.
