Max Verstappen is bezig met echte race na overwinning sprintrace: "Morgen wordt pas een spannende strijd"

Max Verstappen heeft voor Red Bull Racing de eerste Formule 1-sprintrace ooit gewonnen! Hiermee mag hij de echte race van morgen vanaf pole starten en kan hij drie punten bijschrijven.

Lewis Hamilton mocht de minirace vanaf de eerste plek starten, Max Verstappen volgde vanaf P2 en Valtteri Bottas op P3. De Nederlander kon tijdens de start de Mercedes-coureur Lewis Hamilton pakken na een hele goede start.

Na 5 rondes had de Nederlander al ruim 1,5 seconden op Lewis Hamilton. Terwijl ook in die ronde zijn teamgenoot Perez crashte. Tijdens de race verlengde de Limburger het gat naar twee seconden en won gemakkelijk de sprintrace.

De 23-jarige mag morgen vanaf pole position starten voor de Grand Prix van Groot-Brittannië. Na de kwalificatierace stond Max Verstappen de Formule 1 te woord en zei daar: “Hier is het moeilijk om in te halen, maar we hadden een goede start en een goed gevecht met Lewis in de eerste ronden. We probeerden ons eigen tempo te halen. Lewis en ik waren elkaar hard aan het pushen en de banden begonnen te blaren, bij ons allebei.”

De race van morgen

Tegen Jenson Button zei Max vervolgens: “Het wordt morgen een spannende strijd. We beginnen de race met weinig brandstof en we pushen deze auto maximaal door de bochten, wat zwaar zal worden voor de banden. De snelheid is goed, maar na de eerste vrije training konden we geen wijzigingen meer aanbrengen, dus dat is moeilijk voor ons, maar we kunnen een goede race hebben.”

"Het is mooi om hier te racen en ik weet dat de fans voor de Britse coureurs komen, maar ik probeer een mooie race te rijden", zo sloot Verstappen af.

Max vertelde ook dat Mercedes snel was op de rechte stukken en RB in de bochten.

Alles afwegend kun je m.i. alleen maar concluderen dat het morgen heel spannend kan worden, zeker ook wat bandenstrategie in combinatie met het warme weer betreft.

Blijft afwachten...

  Zal vast zo zijn maar áls Bottas een beetje kan volgen zal 1 vd Mercedessen lekker gaan undercutten en daar moet dan toch op gereageerd waarschijnlijk.

  Het maakt niet uit wat BOT doet, RBR kijkt alleen naar HAM. Max moet voor HAM zien te eindigen. Dat BOT 1e wordt is dan minder optimaal, als je maar voor HAM staat.
