Christian Horner: "Temperaturen van boven de zestig graden hebben effect op de banden"

Red Bull Racing zal ontevreden zijn met de matige prestaties van de RB16B tijdens de tweede vrije training op de Hungaroring nabij Boedapest.

Terwijl Verstappen halverwege de training meermaals klaagde over de balans van zijn bolide, lijkt teambaas Christian Horner net na afloop van de sessie ook nog in het duister te tasten over de prestaties van hun bolide. Zowel Verstappen als Perez kwamen tienden van een seconde tekort op de dominant ogende Mercedessen.

Valtteri Bottas was erg snel over een snelle geklokte ronde, terwijl ook Lewis Hamilton een goede racesnelheid lijkt te hebben. Horner weet in een eerste reactie niet meer te melden dan wat de kijker thuis ook kon zien op TV.

Horner: "Ik denk dat wij nog wat moeten vinden. Onze coureurs waren niet blij met de balans van de auto. Max had het lastig en kampte met onderstuur tijdens zijn snelle ronde."

Terwijl het 's ochtends al warm was in Hongarije, stegen de temperaturen vanmiddag nog even flink door. De asfalttemperatuur kwam bijna aan de 64 graden Celsius, terwijl de luchttemperatuur ook erg hoog was met 32,1 graden Celsius. Horner denkt dat daar mogelijk de oorzaak ligt voor de problemen van zijn coureurs.

Horner: "Wij hebben te maken met baantemperaturen van 60 graden en dat heeft effect op de manier waarop de banden werken. Ik weet echter zeker dat we zaken nog kunnen verbeteren", vertelt Horner aan Sky Sports F1.

Terwijl Verstappen vrijdagochtend nog nipt voor Valtteri Bottas kon blijven, komt de Nederlander tijdens de latere training op de Hungaroring bijna drie tienden van een seconde tekort op de snelste Mercedes. Sergio Perez reed de tweede Red Bull naar de vijfde tijd, maar komt nog altijd zo'n acht tienden van een seconde tekort op de Fin Valtteri Bottas in de snelste Mercedes.

Horner stelt in zijn laatste opmerking nog wel gerust: "Ik ben ervan overtuigd dat wij vanaf hier weten te verbeteren."

Vanavond en morgen is er dus werk aan de winkel voor Red Bull Racing. Volgens de laatste weersverwachtingen zouden de temperaturen morgen zo'n tien graden lager kunnen zijn en is er mogelijk kans op regen in de middag.

VT3 was Max in Silverstone 7 tiende sneller en toen worstelde Hamilton met zijn wagen,maar tijdens de kwalificatie sprintrace hadden ze het lek boven.
Kan dus nog alle kanten op.

Oei. Dat klinkt niet best! En dan moet de 'echte' hitte nog aanbreken. Hopelijk lukt het ze om het probleem te verhelpen. Ik heb het liefst dat twee of meer wagens aan elkaar gewaagd zijn zodat er vanaf de start tot de finish geknokt wordt voor de overwinning.

Morgen weer een dag. Die Perez heeft even een schop onder zijn kont nodig van Jos. Maak die vent is duidelijk dat er een titel op het spel staat. Die rijdt als een zielloze mexicaanse zombie rond.

Zeg gewoon tegen hem: geef maar alles desnoods flikker je in de bandenstapels. Je moet harder gaan.

Max heeft nog wel hoop dus dat gewft de burger moed:

"Ja, er zijn wel wat verschillende vlakken waarop we nog beter kunnen. Vooral over een enkele ronde, maar ook in de lange runs. We hebben nog veel dingen om naar te kijken, maar het zijn tegelijkertijd ook geen schokkende dingen", oordeelt de Limburger.

Al met al is er dus nog geen man over boord. Op zaterdag is Red Bull zeker nog in staat om het tij te keren, denkt de Red Bull-coureur. "Het gat is niet te groot om nog goed te kunnen maken.

Ben benieuwd. Hopelijk eerste startrij morgen en Hamilton een slechte dag.
