Ross Brawn: "Geweldig om oude Sebastian Vettel zo te zien knokken"

Ross Brawn geniet als hij Sebastian Vettel weer zo ziet vechten zoals de Duitser deed tijdens de Hongaarse Grand Prix. Vettel reed rondenlang aan de staart van Esteban Ocon, maar hij wist nooit echt serieus aan te vallen voor de overwinning.

Vettel kwam als tweede over de streep, maar vanwege een tekort aan brandstof in de auto werd de Aston Martin later gediskwalificeerd.

Brawn: "Met zijn huidige houding, prestaties en aanpak kan ik niet anders dan het gevoel hebben dat we de oude Sebastian terug hebben. Het is dus teleurstellend voor hem en het team dat hij werd gediskwalificeerd omdat hij niet genoeg brandstof had om een monster te leveren."

Brawn schrijft in zijn column op de officiële Formule 1-website dat er hoop gloort voor de viervoudige Duitse wereldkampioen die sinds dit jaar uitkomt voor Aston Martin.

Brawn: "Hoewel het verlies van punten frustrerend is, kan hij moed putten uit zijn prestaties van de laatste tijd. Ik moet toegeven dat ik mijn twijfels had toen hij naar Aston Martin ging, aangezien het einde van de loopbaan bij Ferrari voor iedereen vaak behoorlijk teleurstellend uitpakt, maar hij het lijkt alsof hij is herboren."

Vettel kwam flink teleurgesteld over de boordradio toen hij over de streep kwam. Hij baalde ervan dat hij niet voorbij wist te komen aan de snellere Esteban Ocon voor hem. Brawn genoot ervan om de vechtlust van Vettel weer te zien.

"Hij was heel dicht bij het behalen van die overwinning. Het is geweldig om hem zo te zien optreden. Hij maakte geen fouten en zette Esteban onder forse druk", zo schrijft de 'Formula One Managing Director Motorsport' in zijn column op F1.com.

Dat beroep van Aston Martin heeft weinig kans op slagen denk ik. Hoelang gaat dit duren voor ze daar eigenlijk een uitspraak gaan doen geen idee.
