Max Verstappen telt zijn zegeningen: "Auto voelde vanaf eerste test al goed aan"

Na de eerste seizoenshelft staat Max Verstappen er sterk voor in de strijd om het wereldkampioenschap. De Nederlander wist vijf races te winnen tot nu toe gedurende de eerste seizoenshelft. Drie races op rij was hij de beste, vanaf de Franse Grand Prix. De auto voelde echter vanaf de eerste meters die hij ermee reed al direct goed aan, vertelt Verstappen in gesprek met de website van Red Bull Racing.

Snel vanaf de eerste meters

De test in Bahrein is inmiddels een half seizoen geleden, maar nu halverwege het seizoen blikt Verstappen terug op die eerste test. "De auto voelde goed aan om te rijden, maar het is vanaf het eerste begin altijd lastig te zeggen hoe het uitpakt, maar wij waren competitief en zagen er vanaf de start al goed uit."

Uitdaging in WK

Verstappen komt momenteel acht WK-punten tekort op Lewis Hamilton in het wereldkampioenschap Formule 1. De Britse Hamilton kwam voor de Britse Grand Prix nog 32 WK-punten tekort op Max Verstappen, nadat de Limburger drie races op rij wist te winnen. Na de klap in Copse Corner ging het verkeerd voor Verstappen.

Lewis Hamilton scoorde maximaal bij afwezigheid van de Nederlander. Tijdens de Hongaarse Grand Prix deed de Nederlander aan schadebeperking door een zwaar gehavende bolide naar de tiende plaats te rijden. Vanwege de diskwalificatie van Sebastian Vetttel kreeg Lewis Hamlton de tweede plaats in zijn schoot geworpen, terwijl Verstappen opschoof naar de negende positie. Zo liep Hamilton nog eens twee punten verder uit op de Limburger in de stand om het wereldkampioenschap Formule 1.
