Binotto: "Kwestie van tijd tot Carlos Sainz tot zijn recht komt"

Het is "slechts een kwestie van tijd" tot Carlos Sainz tot bloei komt bij Ferrari en hij zijn belofte volledig kan waarmaken als Ferrari-coureur. Dat stelt teambaas van het rode team Mattia Binotto.

Eerder deze week al liet Binotto weten dat Ferrari volgens hem het beste rijdersduo in de Formule 1 heeft in 2021. Sainz kwam afgelopen winter van McLaren naar het fameuze team uit Maranello.

Zelfkritische Sainz ziet ruimte voor verbetering

Carlos Sainz liet afgelopen week weten dat hij redelijk tevreden kan zijn met 2021, maar hij heeft het gevoel dat het "niet mijn beste seizoen" in de Formule 1 is. Sainz kijkt kritisch terug op zijn eerste seizoenshelft, en concludeert dat zijn tempo goed is, maar dat hij consistenter wil worden. "En vandaag de dag moet je echt alle puzzelstukjes op de juiste plek leggen om een goede raceprestatie te kunnen laten zien. Het gaat nu beter met mij en ik ben getroost om te zien dat ik qua snelheid altijd dicht bij Charles was. Maar hij is erin geslaagd om betere weekenden samen te stellen. Ik weet dat ik nog veel meer kan", zo stelde Sainz.

Sainz te agressief, zegt Binotto

Teambaas Binotto is het eens met de kritische zelfanalyse van Sainz. Binotto geeft toe dat de voormalige McLaren en Toro Rosso-coureur "fouten heeft gemaakt omdat hij te agressief was". Binotto stelt in het Italiaanse Corriere della Sera: "Hij mist nog steeds het perfecte weekend. In elke kwalificatie of race zijn er altijd een paar kleine foutjes geweest. Maar het is slechts een kwestie van tijd."

Sainz weet dat hij nog tijd heeft om te perfectioneren, ook omdat Ferrari dit jaar "hogere prioriteiten heeft dan McLaren voor de derde plaats te verslaan."

Binotto ziet 2021 als een overgangsjaar en een leerjaar. In 2022 verwacht hij veel van het nieuwe ontwerp van de auto, wanneer de bolides aan volledig nieuwe reglementen moeten voldoen.

"We willen ons als team blijven verbeteren en het team opbouwen om te proberen zo compleet mogelijk te zijn en volgend jaar de kans te hebben om de titel te winnen met de nieuwe reglementen. Daar zijn we klaar voor."

Binotto vertelt dat Ferrari later dit jaar met een upgrade in de motor zal komen, en dat is een "voorgerecht" van wat het team in 2022 wil leveren.

Ik denk dat ze zich bij Redbull flink achter de oren hebben gekrabt met het laten gaan van Carlos.
Mijn mening is dat hij beter is dan Checo.....

Dat valt toch wel mee, Sainz doet het toch al vrij aardig met 2 podiumplaatsen tot nu toe. Ik vind hem namelijk van alle nieuwkomers (Iedereen die voor het eerst in een nieuwe auto rijdt) de beste indruk maken.

Sainz doet het imo prima, als je bedenkt dat hij nieuw is bij Ferrari en zich aan alles aan heeft moeten passen, vooral hoe de Ferrari motor werkt tov de Renault motor die hij gewend was.

  Sainz doet het goed en zijn leercurve gaat nog steeds omhoog.
  
  Leclerc is ook nog niet de onbetwiste nummer 1 binnen het team en het is de vraag hoe dicht Sainz bij hem in de buurt kan komen.
  
  Waarmee ik niet zeg dat Leclerc geen topper zal worden!

  Dat vraag ik me werkelijk af als je bekijkt hoe Binotto over hem praat
  en altijd al heeft gepraat.
  Altijd alles gladstrijken, wat hij bij Vettel niet deed en nu bij Sainz ook niet.

  Klopt, dat heeft ie gedaan, maar vermoed dat ‘t ook met de resultaten te maken heeft.
  
  Als Carlos prestaties nog beter worden zal Binotto zijn houding ook wel veranderen.

  Bij RBR kozen ze voor Max, en Ricciardo wat op dat moment gewoon één van de 4 besten op de grid.
  Ik weet niet hoe het zat met het contract van Sainz bij Toro Rosso, maar ik betwijfel of Marko het echt in eigen hand had om de Spanjaard te behouden
  Tenzij natuurlijk voor een enorme smak extra geld.

Sainz doet het t.o.v. Leclerc beter dan Ricciardo t.o.v. Norris. Maar voor beide coureurs zal dit jaar als overgangsjaar gelden. Volgend jaar een compleet nieuwe auto die met het grondeffect voor downforce van alle coureurs een aanpassing zal vragen. Soort van een reset, waarbij we gaan zien wie het snelst in staat is het maximale uit de nieuwe auto te halen.

Zo’n forum kan toch best wel eens leerzaam zijn.
Zo lees je wel eens dat de een een nieuwelingen in een team best wel wat tijd gunt om tot een twee eenheid met zijn auto te geraken.
Terwijl de ander van mening is dat iedere coureur in een voor hem nieuwe auto er al na een paar races gelijk en volledig moet staan.
Zo zie je maar dat er niet alleen een flink kwaliteit verschil tussen de auto’s en coureurs kan zijn, maat dat ook het inschattingsvermogen en de kennis van zaken van forumgebruikers best wel ver uiteen kan lopen.

Terechte analyse... Het perfecte weekend was er nog niet. De podiumplaatsen zijn fantastisch geweest maar ook te relativeren. Ze zijn niet representatief voor de kwaliteiten van de huidige Ferrari en haar rijders.
