Red Bull-baas Christian Horner prijst Sergio Perez

Sergio Perez staat nog altijd achter de keuze om afgelopen winter Alexander Albon te vervangen voor de vrijgekomen Sergio Perez, die door Racing Point werd verteld waar het gat van de deur is nadat zij Sebastian Vettel hadden gestrikt voor een stoeltje bij Aston Martin. 

Perez stelde niet teleur: hij won een Grand Prix in Bakoe nadat Max Verstappen uitviel met een geplofte band. Ook in Frankrijk speelde Perez een rol van betekenis door Max Verstappen voorbij te laten, waarna de Limburger Lewis Hamilton's Mercedes in de laatste ronde wist te verschalken, waarna het Wilhelmus klonk.

Horner vertelt nu tegen motorsport.com: "Onze visie is altijd geweest dat we de jeugd een kans moeten geven. Red Bull heeft dat, meer dan welk team dan ook, gedaan, maar soms moet je ook buiten je opleidingsprogramma kijken. Dat was een moedige beslissing, maar ook de juiste. De dynamiek die momenteel binnen het team heerst, werkt goed", zo verklaart de baas van Max Verstappen en Sergio Perez. 

"Het is een geweldige teamspeler en wij zijn erg tevreden met het werk dat hij levert", zegt Horner tegen de Engeltalige versie van Motorsport.
