Lando Norris is volwassener geworden volgens Herbert

Lando Norris is in zijn McLaren bezig aan een superseizoen. De jonge Brit mocht dit jaar al enkele keren het podium beklimmen en staat knap derde in de tussenstand. Ook presteert hij vele malen beter dan zijn nieuwe ervaren teamgenoot Daniel Ricciardo.

Ook Johnny Herbert is opgevallen dat zijn landgenoot prima voor de dag komt. In gesprek met Motorsport-magazin.com laat hij zich over Norris uit: "Er is een soort volwassenheid bij hem naar binnen geslopen en het is een soort volwassenheid die je niet zag in de afgelopen jaren toen Sainz zijn teamgenoot was. Nu Ricciardo zijn teamgenoot is, is er een mentale knop omgegaan want ze zijn geen vrienden. Lando wil geen vriend zijn en dat is de juiste houding."

Norris eindigde dit seizoen in bijna elke race in de punten. Alleen in Hongarije viel hij uit na de inmiddels beruchte incidenten-regen bij de start. Maar verder is hij veelal in de top 10 van het veld te vinden. Ook Herbert ziet dat: "Hij heeft iets wat hij hiervoor niet had. Ja McLaren heeft ze verbeterd, maar Lando is de echte uitblinker. Hij is enorm consequent. Hij neemt het op tegen Daniel en tot nu toe is het Lando die het beste uit de auto haalt en in de eerste seizoenshelft is er een enorme verandering geweest."

Het klopt dat Norris veel beter presteert dan zijn ervaren teamgenoot. Waar Norris trots op de derde plaats staat moet Ricciardo het doen met een negende plaats met meer dan de helft minder punten. Ook heeft de goedlachse Australiër het nog niet voor elkaar gebokst om op het podium te eindigen terwijl Lando Norris al drie keer de champagne mocht proeven. Misschien kan Ricciardo in België zijn kans grijpen.

Lando doet het uitstekend, zowel op als naast de baan.
Krijgt ook eindelijk iets meer zelfvertrouwen en is duidelijk niet meer zo verlegen,
wat hij altijd probeerde te verbloemen door zijn eeuwige grapjes.
Dat heeft hij niet meer nodig en doet dat gelukkig ook niet meer.
