McLaren mikt op "goede punten" in Spa, Ricciardo kan Norris niet bijhouden

Daniel Ricciardo kan in Spa-Francorchamps het tempo van teamgenoot Lando Norris niet bijbenen. De Australiër worstelt sinds zijn komst naar McLaren. Norris kwam op vrijdag al tot de achtste en negende snelste tijd, terwijl Ricciardo op de twaalfde en vijftiende tijd kwam. Tijdens de derde vrije training op zaterdagochtend werd het verschil tussen de beide McLaren-coureurs nog groter. Norris noteerde de vierde snelste tijd, terwijl Daniel Ricciardo niet verder kwam dan de dertiende tijd.

Ricciardo benadrukt dat hij met plezier weer achter het stuur plaats nam na de zomerstop. Terugblikkend op zijn terug op zijn start tijdens de Belgische Grand Prix. “ Onze prestaties op de zachte band waren niet geweldig, maar ik denk dat we goed begrijpen waarom, dus ik zou niet zeggen dat ik me zorgen maak over de tijden van vandaag. Het was behoorlijk oke op de harde compound. We hebben wat stappen gemaakt met de set-up, dus we zullen proberen vanavond een beetje meer een stap te maken en wat meer te leren. Het was een standaard dag. We hebben de regen grotendeels vermeden, dus we zullen zien."

Teambaas Seidl spreekt van een 'positieve vrijdag', terwijl Norris dit keer toch minder dicht achter de kop zat dan tijdens voorgaande races. Seidl: " Het lijkt erop dat we zoals gewoonlijk op het middenveld zitten en vanavond zullen we de gegevens analyseren die we hebben verzameld om ervoor te zorgen dat we alle details optimaliseren om zo competitief mogelijk te zijn in de kwalificatie en in de race."

Het team wil dan ook "goede punten" scoren in Spa.

Lando Norris heeft er vertrouwen in dat het team tijdens de kwalificatie nog snel uit de hoek kan komen, ondanks dat hij tijdens de vrijdag iets verder van de kop af leek te zitten. "Ik heb er vertrouwen in dat we een auto hebben die goed genoeg is om de concurrentie aan te gaan en een goed resultaat te behalen in de kwalificatie.”
