Valtteri Bottas kijkt vooruit: 'Het is interessant dat alles wijd open ligt"

Het langverwachte nieuws kwam maandag dan eindelijk naar buiten: Valtteri Bottas is volgend jaar Alfa Romeo coureur. Het nieuws zette een hele sloot aan transferaankondigingen in werking. De meeste wenkbrauwen gingen echter wel omhoog door de Bottas transfer want Alfa Romeo is zeker geen topteam.

Nu heeft Bottas zich ook uitgelaten over zijn overstap naar zijn aankomende werkgever. Tegen het Finse MTV Sport sprak Bottas zijn verwachtingen uit over 2022: "Het is interessant dat alles wijd open ligt. Het veld kan echt een beetje worden opgeschud. In theorie zal de performance van alle teams een beetje bij elkaar liggen. Er zouden geen grote verschillen moeten zijn."

Volgend jaar zijn er immers compleet nieuwe regels en daardoor compleet andere auto's. Inderdaad kan het zo zijn dat er dan een compleet ander volgorde is. Bottas ziet dat als iets goeds: "Het zorgt voor een soort positiviteit bij alles. Ik heb gezien en gehoord waarom een team een sprong voorwaarts kan maken. Ik denk dat het mogelijk is, wel door hard te werken natuurlijk."

De Fin zorgde met zijn transfer begin deze week voor een stroom aan ander transfernieuws. Zijn overstap naar Alfa Romeo zorgde er namelijk voor dat er een plekje vrij kwam bij Mercedes. Dit plekje werd dan weer ingenomen door George Russell wat betekende dat er een stoeltje over was bij Williams. Alexander Albon krijgt dat stoeltje. 2022 zal ons vertellen wie de beste keuze heeft gemaakt.

Laten we het in godsnaam hopen. Hoe episch zal het zijn als Leclerc/Lewis/Russell/Max/alonso heel dicht bij elkaar zitten. Maakt mij niet eens uit wie er dan wint. Dat jaar gaat dan de boeken in.

  Voor Hamilton gaat Bottas gewoon aan de kant.

  Na alle vernederende verzoeken van James die Bottas zomaar accepteerde zie ik niet waarom het nu ineens anders zou zijn. Als James tegen Bottas zegt dat zijn naam Reek is dan is dat voortaan Bottas zijn nieuwe identiteit.
