Einde Formule 1-avontuur Hülkenberg: "Geen gesprekken geweest"

Het lijkt erop dat er een definitief einde is gekomen aan de Formule 1-carrière van Nico Hülkenberg. Het laatste zitje van Alfa Romeo gaat aan zijn neus voorbij dus zijn de kansen verkeken voor de sympathieke Duitser.

Het is al weer eventjes geleden dat de wereld Nico Hülkenberg in een Formule 1-auto zijn rondjes zag rijden. In Duitsland zagen we hem afgelopen seizoen invallen voor de positief geteste Lance Stroll maar daarna zagen we hem niet meer terug in de koningsklasse. Tegenwoordig is de Duitser regelmatig als co-commentator te horen bij het Oostenrijkse ServusTV maar dat is geen race-zitje.

In gesprek met BILD laat Hülkenberg weten dat het laatste stoeltje op de grid er voor hem ook niet in zit: "Er zijn geen gesprekken met Alfa Romeo. Dat zou de laatste optie zijn voor een permanent stoeltje in 2022 aangezien alle anderen zijn bezet." Maar de 'Hulk' kijk vooruit en ziet dat er meerdere opties gloren aan de horizon: "Het leven gaat verder. Ik heb interessante verzoeken gekregen vanuit andere raceklassen dus er is geen haast om een keuze te maken. Ik ga alles op een rijtje zetten en dan zien we wel hoe het gaat."

Hülkenberg debuteerde in 2010 in de Formule 1 bij Williams en veroverde in zijn debuutseizoen meteen een pole position in Brazilië. In 2011 moest hij langs de zijlijn toekijken. Van 2012 tot 2019 was hij daarna elk seizoen actief in de Formule 1 voor Force India, Sauber en Renault. Hij wist in al zijn Formule 1-jaren nooit het podium te bereiken.

Hulk en Bottas zou geen overbodige luxe zijn voor Alfa, al is het maar voor een jaar. Ervaring is denk ik heel belangrijk bij het ingaan van een nieuw tijdperk. Als je het geld van Williams en de nauwe samenwerking van Haas en Ferrari in oogschouw neemt dan kan het best eens een loodzware periode worden voor Alfa. Of je moet een zak geld kunnen krijgen van Ferrari voor het plaatsen van een talent.

  Helemaal mee eens. Sterker nog; Bottas / Hülkenberg is een uitmuntend duo voor Alfa. Beide coureurs zijn gewoon snel en hebben ook nog ervaring.

  Dan ben je wel even wat racecraft kwijt... hij heeft nu echt niks meer te zoeken in F1.

  Je kan ook laatste staan met veel uitstraling Pete, maar wat schiet je dan op met uitstraling? Ervaring, geld en punten is wat telt natuurlijk. Het liefst een combinatie van.. Zhou heeft ook geen uitstraling en Schumacher heeft de uitstraling ook (nog) niet. Als 1 van de 2 ervaring op mag doen daar hoop ik dat ze er financieel flink op vooruit gaan.

bij hem heb ik steeds het idee dat hij het zo "net niet had".
Op zich wel jammer want ik mocht hem wel..maar met sympathie alleen win je geen races.
Zijn quote "fire, there's fire" zal me wel altijd bijblijven.

Fijn dat we het vanaf heden niet meer over Hulkenberg te hebben. Er zijn genoeg 13 in een dozijn coureurs. Aardige vent, maar heeft meer kansen gehad dan hij daadwerkelijk verdiende.

De familie Hulkenberg is net terug van de mis en is aangeschoven voor de kerstdis.

Nico stopt een grote servet met sneeuwtaferelen erop in zijn kraag.

Vrouwlief geeft met een stralend gezicht van een kerstengel het aangescherpte, blinkende, grote vleesmes aan manlief.

De voormalige Formule 1-coureur voelt de adrenaline opkomen bij de nieuwe uitdaging die op hem wacht.

Hij ziet de gespannen maar ook hoopvolle blikken op de gezichten van zijn andere tafelgenoten.

Tenminste, in zoverre die niet verborgen zijn achter de gigantische, goudbruine kalkoen waarvan de heerlijke geuren de bijbelse ster aan de hemel doet verbleken.

Dan heft Hulkenberg het blinkende mes...
