Brundle over titelstrijd: "We hebben het beste van Max Verstappen nog niet gezien"

In Monza gaat de strijd tussen Max Verstappen en Lewis Hamilton in alle hevigheid door. Het is een duel op de scherpst van de snede tussen twee totaal verschillende coureurs. Hamilton is overduidelijk de gene met meer ervaring en dat kan in zijn voordeel werken.

Oud-coureur en huidig Sky commentator Martin Brundle volgt de strijd op de voet. In gesprek met Motorsport.com bespreekt hij de kansen van beide kemphanen: "Ik denk dat Lewis door zijn ervaring heel goed weet wanneer hij aan damage control moet doen. Ik wil niet zeggen dat het een zaak van slimmer of wijzer zijn is maar het gaat puur om ervaring."

Maar Brundle ziet ook dat dit steeds meer en meer begint te spelen bij Verstappen: "Maar Max wordt alleen maar sterker omdat hij die ervaring nu ook krijgt. De ervaring die hij op doet zal hem een betere coureur maken. We hebben het beste van Max nog niet gezien. Hij wordt alleen maar beter en beter."

Ach gut, zegt Brundle iets goeds over Verstappen, moet het voor de Hamboys ook over Hamilton worden gezegd. Het is bovendien wat betreft HAM onwaar, we hebben al het beste van HAM gezien en het wordt vanaf nu alleen maar minder.

      Hoe vaker je dat tegen jezelf zegt, hoe eerder je het nog gaat geloven ook. Het is dit jaar gewoon circuit afhankelijk welke auto sneller is. Maar dan lijken Max zijn prestaties ineens minder bijzonder, door een één of andere idiote reden...

      d07 het is net andersom, het doet namelijk volledig afbreuk aan alle titels van Hamilton als z'n fanboys toegeven dat hij 6 van z'n titels in de meest dominante auto ooit in de F1 heeft gehaald. Max z'n prestaties zijn juist uitzonderlijk te noemen in een mindere auto.

      Titels zijn titels RBH. Hoe deze tot stand zijn gekomen doet er niet toe, daar wordt over een paar jaar amper meer over gesproken. Die gaan gewoon de boeken in.
      Maar als Max deze titel van dit seizoen gaat winnen is dat procentueel wel meer aan de coureur Max toe te schrijven omdat Hamilton/Mercedes minstens evenwaardig is.
      Dat zou een prestatie van formaat zijn, zo'n strijd heeft Hamilton zijn laatste titels niet hoeven te voeren.
      Maar afbreuk? Nee dat niet, mijn inziens.

      Brundle zegt wel meer goede dingen over Max hoor! Martin is best objectief naar mijn mening, en ja natuurlijk speelt de factor vaderlandsliefde ook een klein beetje mee. Da's bij iedereen zo. Maar toch kan hij Lewis ook bekritiseren, als die een beetje koeken staat te bakken. (Heeftie iets meer moeite mee bij George en Lando, .. maar dat snap ik dan ook wel weer).
      Waar ik het dan helemaal mee eens ben, is dat Lewis over z'n top heen is ...

    De 'damage' die Verstappen krijgt wordt alleen maar door anderen toebedeeld. Zelf maakt hij dit seizoen nauwelijks fouten.

    In tegenstelling tot Lewis die toch echt wel 2 of 3 races foutjes heeft gemaakt
