Horner moet twee keer nagelbijten: "Je moet de eerste bocht overleven"

Sinds 2013 in Red Bull Racing geen wereldkampioen meer geworden. Maar dit jaar is Max Verstappen weer volop in de strijd om de wereldtitel verwikkeld. Red Bull-teambaas gaat de strijd met Mercedes en Lewis Hamilton vol goede moed aan.

In gesprek met Sky Sports kijkt de Engelsman naar de titanenstrijd: "Ik denk dat het gehele team geniet van dit competitieve kampioenschap. Iedereen werkt hard om terug te komen in de uitdagende positie waar we zeven jaar op hebben gejaagd. We weten dat de twee volgende races moeilijk voor ons zullen worden maar iedereen is klaar voor de uitdaging."

Met de sprintkwalificatie erbij zijn er praktisch twee races dit weekend. Voor Horner betekent dit dat hij twee keer moet nagelbijten. Hij heeft namelijk één punt op Monza waar hij altijd in spanning zit: "Je moet de eerste bocht hier overleven. Je bent blij om je auto's door de eerste bocht te zien komen maar om dat twee keer te doen is nogal stressvol. Het is fascinerend om te zien hoe het werkt hier. Je moet voorzichtig zijn met de tow. Je kan het soms net zo makkelijk verprutsen als je het in je voordeel kan gebruiken."
