Daniel Ricciardo wint weddenschap en kan uitzien naar ritje in NASCAR

Daniel Ricciardo heeft weer eens een weddenschap gewonnen. De meest recente F1-winnaar kan na zijn overwinning in de Italiaanse Grand Prix uitzien naar een ritje in een auto waarin één van zijn grote helden furore maakte op Amerikaanse circuits. McLaren-teambaas Zak Brown is namelijk in het bezit van de NASCAR-stockcar Chevrolet Monte Carlo uit 1984 van Dale Earnhardt Sr. Hij reed rond met nummer 3 op zijn bolide. Het is niet voor niets dat Ricciardo ooit koos om te racen met racenummer 3.

In maart zei Zak Brown tegen zijn Australische coureur dat Ricciardo bij het behalen van een podium voor McLaren ter beloning een ritje mocht maken in de oude NASCAR die Brown in zijn eigen autocollectie heeft.

Ricciardo zegt tijdens de persconferentie na de race: “Ik heb zoiets van, misschien geeft hij mij de auto? Als ik het podium zou behalen, zou ik erin mogen rijden. We hebben het nooit over een overwinning gehad, dus ik liet hem uit mijn schoen drinken, misschien geeft hij mij nu wel die auto. Dat zou ik een goede ruil vinden", zo grapt Ricciardo erop los.

Daniel Ricciardo won de Italiaanse Grand Prix voor zijn teamgenoot Lando Norris. Het was voor hemzelf de eerste overwinning sinds 2018, terwijl het voor McLaren langer geleden was dat zij als eersten over de meet kwamen: het oranje team won in 2012 hun laatste race voordat het team de verrassende één-twee op Monza binnen sleepte afgelopen weekend. Wanneer Ricciardo achter het stuur van de oude NASCAR-stockcar mag kruipen is niet bekend.

  Het niet te inlossen van een verloren weddenschap.
